Got master fencer a little while ago,
i cant seem to understand what the fuzz is all about...
plz dont flame me, im still a newbie at the game, but could someone plz enlighten me what the fencer template is about?
in my opinion: lowdamage, no good HAM hitter, bugged weapons and no Armor Piercing good weapons...
anyone wanna explain

well if u get a uber stun baton then u can dish out some good damage in pvp, scatter hit 2 hits every HAM bar.

As the above poster said, pvp.
Fencer is mostly a pvp proffesion as it is now. As you said youself we lack armor penetration and thats a serious hamper in pve. The only place in pve that fencer realy shines is as a tank, due to our high defences and dodge. But then again there isnt much group hunting, if any, these days.
So whip out your stun baton and go pvp abit

At this time, armor and buffs tend to obscure the strengths and weaknesses of the professions. Ever try to play swordsman with no buffs? How about with no armor? It's not impossible, I've done it. But without armor or buffs, that profession could not possibly be used the way people use it, for soloing high-end mobs, and spamming special moves.
Game balance is all about costs and benefits. The fact that swordsmen and riflemen do much greater damage is supposed to be balanced by the fact that the specials cost a lot to use, so you shouldn't be able to spam away your strongest special, and also the fact that they are easier to hit. But, buffs and armor eliminate both of these drawbacks.
On the other hand, by choosing fencer, you trade damage in favor of high defense. But with buffs and armor, defense becomes irrelevant, since a buffed and armored swordsman can take as much punishment as a buffed fencer. So you've sacrificed damage and armor piercing, and got noreal benefit in return.
Proof of this is the popularity of fencer as part of a jedi-hunting template. The drawbacks of the high-damage professions become relevant again, because armor is vulnerable to lightsabers, so high damagers can't hide behind armor. Defense becomes relevant again.

All the posts saying fencer cant dish any damage pve, i do the geo caves in the same time going fencer as i do when i switch to tk, i swap from one to another fighting krayts and NS, stun baton destroys the stone cutters in their cave (unless they hit me with seething hatred for 2800 damage :/ ) then i swith to burst run lol.
I cant think of anything pve that i can to as tk but not fencer, and i seem to take less damage as fencer.

With a rifle equipped and cheap 66% base, 3% stun armor and 2k buffs I can walk through the genosian caves to acklay in about 10 minutes. With either VK's or a gaffi/baton equipped I can't get to the mercs in the same amount of time. I can kill a canyon krayt dragon with a rifle equipped in about 15 minutes whereas with a 430 damage gaffi equipped and no dots I cannot kill a krayt before it despawns after an hour. I can kill the same krayt dragon with a 2h sword equipped in about 15 minutes also. It's really not even an arguable point or a point worth arguing, fencer damage is low and most are fine with that because it is given the best defenses in the game. The reason fencer doesn't shine right now is that HAM costs for specials are negligible so when we wield high HAM cost weapons like T21's and powerhammersthat are supposed to have to be used sparingly, we can spam specials all day without worrying. The game has changed from the devs original intention of making there be these intrisic differences between classes - that is the problem that SOE is working to solve with the combat balance and it's probably not a fun task. They make 1 small change and it has resounding impact across all professions/MOBs/PVP making a snowball effect they have to follow to the end before they can even start.

All of the above are true, but the trade off is this:
Very high defenses.
Unarmored, unbuffed, I can take on mobs as a master fencer that I would have a hard time with most other professions. Drop a buff on that, and the only thing I have to worry about is repeatedly getting hit with poisons, high-powered diseases, and mind hits. Put armor on top of that, and I can tank nearly anything in the game, as long as I watch my mind.
Add Master Doc toMaster Fencer, and thisends up being one of the best templates I've tried. Its only real weakness in killing things is high kinetic resists and high armor. On the other hand, you can tank just about anything short of a Krayt or Super Battle Droid.

This is absolutely true. It's never that hard to get buffs, but I like the fact that I cango without buffs and armor if buffs are unvailable.I've tried a lot of combinations, but Ihave found that with a supply of brandy and stims, fencer/rifleman is the best combination for playing unbuffed.

I wasnt aware i was arguing a point here, the original post was asking what all the fuss was about with fencer, i replied that there is few things in the game you cant kill. I know what kills pve in the quickest time as most do, go sword or rifle, but that was not what the topic is about. Im a tank, i chose fencer to go with the rest of my template and it has been the same since day one. The only thing i change is my medic, scout and carbine....all depending on what im doing in game.
Standing in the tusken fortress or squill caves chatting with no armour while being aggroed watching your playmate work hard at killing the mob is very entertaining.
My template wont be changed untill i take a good look at the CU, sad as i may sound when im hunting i actually like to watch the moves my char makes, so ranged never was one of my options.
Seem to be going a bit off coarse to the original post, the title should have been 'what is the best pve pvp template' lol

I am Master fencer and got two decent aklay batons (300 stun and 400 gaffi), and i think Fencer is great in PvE too. Ever tried to grind FS xp on dantooine with a stun baton? 900K xp in 1 hour and 20 minutes. My TK friends have about 500-600K when I have maxed.
And the defense is awesome. I can remember many times where my 3 TKM friends suffered alot more damage than me by creatures. With Aircake and buff...I LOVE IT!
The main point is: A mixture of professions in a group is the best. There is always someone that has vulnerability to either stun for fencers, blast for swordmen, electricity for bh, energy for pikemen etc etc.... Mixing these groups with docs and combat medics makes a real leathal group. Put the TKs and Fencers up front and let them tank you way thorogh the enemies while the ranged fighters stands in the back withou any cool movements what so ever....
