I am a Wookiee Master Ranger soo to be Master Creature Handler. My bowcaster does decent damage but if I get aggroed im screwed so I'm looking for a decent attack to defend myself with. Since I'm mastering Ranger and CH I only have enough for 3/4 of a tree. I was thinking of doing the Footwork tree for Health Hit but if I do the Fencing Technique tree i can get body hit 3. But the Footwork tree also gives bonuses to posture attacks and knockdown and stuff. Would Body Hit 3 be worth not having any defense?

Go with Footwork all the way. The Speed you get from the bonuses really help, plus the bleed attacks are decent enough. However if your looking for a suppliment to your pets I would say you should just use a pistol since you won't have more points avaliable.

I'm a master Brawler who is going to master Pikeman and 2 hand, but I still wanted to use all forms of melee.

so I went 2.3.0.0. TKA, and 0.4.0.0. Fencer. at the time, it was because I wanted to make sure no one EVER knocked me down, but now that that has been nerfed for the most part, I still like it. the defenses are great, the health bleeds are the best when killing monsters, and I enjoy dodging from time to time.

If you were only taking one tree you'd want to take stances and grips for the defense. see pistoleers do it all the time
