Thread: Am I the only one who finds our weapons look awful?
Hi guys, I've been lurking around here for awhile without every posting anything so I'l start off by introducing myself... Imperius Black - Novice Fencer from wanderhome.
Ok with that out of the way.. am I the only one who finds our weapons look nothing like the long elegant, detailed swords one would imagine a Fencer having? 2h sword get impressive weapons, same goes for Polearms but we have these puny little daggers or vanilla boring swords. It's bad enough that we don't get shields or anything to hold in our other hand but at least give us neat weapons.
I realise many things need to be fixed before even thinking of touching on superficial things like this.. it still irks me though.
Anyone agree?
P.S Give us sheeths! Perhaps in the expansion or something.. it'd be extremely cool to put your weapon into a sheeth on your side and slide it out when engaging in combat. Could possibly be Fencer 1handsword/pistol users only.
Yes shealths would be nice, so I don't keep poking people graphics wise when I am not fighting anything. What also bugs me is how the blade of our swords go through our arms and legs when we are sitting on the ground...I think 'ouch' everytime I see it.
Just a personal observation, but I think the only reason they used the name 'Fencer' as our profession name was that it was the one that fit the genre the most. 'Swashbuckler' certainly doesn't...and I can't think of any other 'titles' a one-handed sword user would have. So on that note I can see why we don't have pure 'fencer' weapons like rapiers and such as they use the term 'fencer' to cover one-handed swords users in general.
though yes I agree some of the sword designs are a bit crappy, some I like (I am a bit partial to katana style blades
) and I saw one in the bazaar the other day that looked really cool (would have bought it but it's stats weren't up to my standards), forget the name of..started with an Rand it looked like a combo of a dagger and sai.

Bummer. Oh well, I managed to get my claws on a killer Ryyk blade (1.8 75-175 if I remember the speed and dam right). I like this blades design up to where the blade starts to curve...the rest looks ugly...
I agree there are like 2 semi good looking weapons BUT nobody wants to use them because they well...suck destroy our ham and do bad damage
They all laughed at me when I wasstaabbing mutant rancors with my vibroblade. I laughed back at them when I walked away with more XP than most people were getting. Then I clapped for myself and poked my eye out.
i'm a thief of intimidatory appearance. i still don't know what that means.

I have sketched a few designs for some new swords for fencer, i ill scan them and post em in a few days so you all can c my ideas. I want to c more then just the a-typical fening weapons. I want to c an ACTUAL fencers rod.
A few ideas i have to make fencer better:
1.)Atleast 5 more weapons (i have about 10 designs so well if they get picked woot!)
2.) customization of fencing stance, does anyone besides me find that no fencer in there right mind would ever leave there body open to attacks?
3.)more customization on weapons for us fencers (not just us but others)
4.)FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make the vibro blade not look like a **edit** butter knife.
Well thats just my 2 cents
Well there's plenty of ways that a fencer could improve in both fun and style. One way is to implement a sort stackable attacking theme. You have to perform a stance move, a preparation, than the attack, so that you can mix and match depending on the situation. It would add a lot more fun and interest to the profession. Hear me out before you say, "It's too complex," or "Too many new animations," and the like.
Firstly, we could modify many classes to this design, so you have under one tree, the "stances" which will effect damage, speed, ham costs, and distance.
Than you have preparation, which would further modify the stance if desired, it would cost time but would say, increase damage, or only cost half the ham, or would cause dizzy.
Than the attack, or "strike" would be another, in which you decide the final outcome of the hit, whether it be high damage, high ham cost, low damage, high speed, medium ham cost, the list goes on.
So if find a creature you can kill in one hit, but don't want totake damage whileattacking, just get into your highest damage stance, than do a high damage prep, and do the highest damage strike! It would take say 10 seconds to fully do, but would than cause massive damage. It would also cost massive HAM, but it would be worth it if you got the one hit kill.
Another idea, besides the damaging stances, is the defensive stances, and defensive ladder. It's the same idea but it would boost your defense against certain attacks.
Theoretically this could fix MANY problems the brawler profession has right now. It's lack of use in a large group (without an alternate profession) and it's similarity to the marksman profession with none of the benefits of such. It would make the brawler a fantastically interesting profession and would allow for character customization of attacks according to situation. It would yes, take a lot of work, but would than fix many of the problems that the brawler already has.
Well that's my biggest idea, what does everyone think? Problems? Suggestions?
