Thread: Fencers as Duelists not Tanks

With the Combat Balance the devs will be doing alot of changes to professions, fixing them and making them more what they are supposed to be.
The original vision of Fencers was as Duelists (we even have the Title), we were supposed to be the experts at 1v1 combat, however due to our defences we have been pushed into the role of Tank.I was wondering about trying to move back into the Duelists they were supposed to be, and had an idea.
Three steps:
First, reduce the Melee and Ranged defence Fencers get. (sorry)
Second, greatly improve dodge so that it more then makes up for the lost defence.(This would more than compensate for the lost defences,allowing us to avoid blows that would hit us under the present system)
Third (the big one), change dodge so that it only works on the targeted mob.
Under the new system we would have better defences when fighting single targets (better than they are atm), but when fighting a group we would have difficulty (we would have to rely on our lowered defences against the extra targets).
This would move Fencers back to their original role, the Duelist, brilliant 1v1, not so great against groups.
Anyway it just an idea I had, don't even know if it would be possiblebut Ithought I would share it and see what people thought.

just an idle thought....
i am master fencer (and master tka, 0-4-4-4 pistol)
Masters should be able to defend multiple targets at once...with a high degree of success. Dueling is one very narrow use of my skills...I am most often faced with multiple targets and need to defend against them.
Fencer is one of the most balanced and thoughtfully created professions in the game (tka is also, imo). I would not change a thing.

We also have pretty insane speed. High speed = low damage, low speed = high damage. If you want to do a lot of damage, be a heavy swordsman. Being a fencer is about precision and grace, inevitably landing that final blow, rather than pummeling your opponent, finally bashing his head in (read: power hammer)......

TK makes a far more effective tank than a fencer when it comes to high level mobs because a tk has double the melee toughness.
A fencer's defenses don't factor in when you are fighting high level mobs like krayts, gorax, kimos, death watch npcs because of the simple fact that those creatures have 100% accuracy and never miss.
Fencer is pretty reduntant in pve if you fight those high level mobs. You won't dodge any attacks and you won't do any damage.

I thought the Bounty Hunters were supposed to be the experts of 1 vs 1 combat. At least we got defenses, they got the shaft.

We already are dulests with are crazy dodge. I think we will be fine and are fine.

yeah but we hardly do any dmg and our weapons are like.. dusty old!

yes, but if fencers hadawsome damage andthe awsome defenses then there would be absolutly no reason to go any other melee class.
