Reason im asking is I dont have a Ranged mitigation at all in my pure melee template.
Master Fencer, TKM, Master Brawler, 3040 Pikeman, Novice Medic
Defences are huge, around 90 for each defence vs. X and capped on ranged/melee defence with fencer level dodge. So will I be raped by range all the time or will my skills compensate?
Off topic question also, is there any difference between polearm spinattack1 and spinattack2 apart from damage?

Since u are MTKA imo there is no need for m-brawler...u allready have a kd....ranged migration is usefull when u fight some rifleman in pvp....without migration they hit u very hard...so if u mainly pvp i would change the template....m-fencer/tka/pistoleer 1043 and nov. med....capped with dodge and most def. vs. stats. good melee and ranged defense along with migration...

I had heard a rumor at one point that there was going to be this thing called combat rebalancing, and wih that rumor came another rumor that they were removing mitigations from the various classes. Just something to think about and maybe try to confirm before you change your template drastically. Then again, they might just nerf the hell out of def. stackers and you might need to rework your template anyhow ;;
I also heard a rumor that the devs were going to focus the entire team on JTL and then, once that comes out, they will start working on the combat rebalance, and since JTL doesn't come out for some months, the combat rebalance isn't quite on the horizon yet.

Im not getting master brawler because of the knockdown (although it is useful), there is intimidate2 and warcry2 which are very good against Jedi, not to mention the Fencer CoB extra bonus.
The question is, are my defences high enough to compensate for lack of ranged mitigation.

I think your question is pretty hard to answer actually. Obviously if you could get ranged mitigation on your current template, you would be in fine shape, but its going to come down to some tough decision making if you want to change your template around in order to accomodate this. If I am not mistaken, the way this skill works is that at mitigation 1, you get a 20% reduction to the damage range of an opponents weapon, and an additional 20% for each additional level of the mitigation skill. Most you can have is 60% and this is only reachable if you master an elite ranged skill. There is information reguarding how this specifically works here in the pistoleer faq: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=31851
In the end, I don't think there is anyway to know for sure if your defenses can compensatefor ranged mitigation because they both indirectly stack with one another to lessen the damage your oppenent can dish out to you...

You will be just fine assuming you know what you're doing. I've got less defense than you do (Master fencer, 3004 tka, 4040 doc) and it has been ages since a ranged person has killed me. With the correct foods and a cob macro looping, I'm hit probably once in 10 shots by a master rifleman. its quite comical really to be chasing a rifleman for 10 minutes and never be able to catch him but he never is able to hit me either... that's not much of an exaggeration.

I like Master Rifles/Fencer/1-0-4-1 Pistoleer/2-1-0-0 Medic myself.
Ranged and Melee Mitigation 3, capped Melee (Well, 124) and Ranged Defence, very good state resists, good offensive and defence power, and can heal Bleeds and about 600 to Health/Action using normal stims. Personally, I used Janta Stims.
