I would like to know why the melee range is so high.

And if no one can give me a good answer I would like to begin a petition to limit it in the revamp.

30m=90ft ............. How is this remotely feasible. Even in space. Come on now, there is no WAY that anyone can lunge 30m, period.

I believe that the attack distance of any melee profession should be 5m, total. Anything else should be out of range. If that means ranged weapons in the hands of a PVPer who kites own, then GOOD, because that makes SENSE !

That being said, if I get into a tussle at point blank range with a TKM or Swordsmen, I should get owned. Oh thats right, that already happens when I get KD spammed and mind attacked so I cant throw poisons or use specials.

It really does not make sense to have the range so great. If anyone can muster a LOGICAL explanation for this, I will reverse my opinion. But Rifleman / CM are overpowered too, or get Synthsteak are not logical explanations.

I don't troll. Your comments about me in the other forums and the one-stars are just petty. This is a melee question, why wouldnt I post in all the relevant forums.

Max Range for melee is 15M with Lunge2, it might be more for Pikeman, no idea what your talking about.

My lunge is 20m with all one handed weapons I use.

Anyway, if you think that is too far for a lunge (Which in reality, sure it is) then you should ask that ranged weapons go beyond 65m. That way riflemen could snipe you from half a kilometer away. Perhaps grenades and flame throwers should affect everything in their path rather than just the enemy. Maybe it should take longer for doctors to heal a disease or wounds.

Fact is, this is just a game so there has to be a suspension of reality in order for it to flow.

how hard do you think it would be to run at full speed at 40m and still keep your aim as a marksman? if a melee opponent is full out sprinting, how is it possible that you could keep nearly perfect aim?

orkboyz, you made several fantastic comments............. you should be on the combat balance team.

Someone on pikeman had some really good explanations for this i thought. you should check it out.

It's simple.

There is an exploit that each and every ranged fighter uses in PVP.

It's called the Out of Range Exploit.

Melee can stay on top of you while you run and all they get is out of range.

And that is with the current range max for Lunge 1-2.

So just because I'm feeling confrontational I'll say this.

Get over it.

First of all this is a game, not real life. Any argument that uses reality as a foundation is inherently flawed. It does not matter whether or not it is possible or realistic. What does matter is overall game balance, amongst other issues.

There are many reasons the vast majority of games have ridiculously large melee ranges. One of the primary issues that makes it generally a necessity is the fact that we have to deal with lag, especially in an MMORPG where it's going to quite often be a quarter or even half of a second. If you make the range on a melee weapon "realistic" then the melee weapon is generally rendered useless as it becomes nearly impossible to stay within range of a moving object. One way of fixing that is to make the melee user "stick" to the target, but that's hardly fair and makes it impossible to get away. A much more balanced approach is to give the melee user a range that is large enough to give them a reasonable chance at staying within range. The result is we have unrealistically large melee ranges that allow us to survive and thrive in PvP because we don't have to be right next to you to hit you.

If you're sincere about wanting things that "make sense" then you'll not only lobby for smaller melee ranges but you'll lobby to force blaster users to stop shooting while running, or at the very least be much slower and have trouble hitting anything while moving. It doesn't exactly "make sense" for you to be sprinting away from me with a huge gun and still have superb aim with the thing does it? But you're not really after that are you...

I wonder if anyone remembers what it was like when melee had the 6m range before COB. We could never hit anything and we were destroyed by any ranged profession. Of course the ranged players claimed that was fair they loved to say don't bring a knife to a gun fight, but the honest ones knew it had to change. The above poster is right on the money with his post. If you are having trouble getting kd then you need to adjust with food or by changing your template. I have both a ranged character and a Melee character and there is nothing wrong with the range of a melee person given the lag and such in today's game.
