Okay i have been skimming through several posts now and am seeing different feedback on what weapon to use as a Fencer. Been Seeing Gaffi Baton, Vibroblade and Stun Baton as main top 3. Just wondering what weapon you find more beneficial and has the most bang and speed for the buck.

Currently I am using a Rantok blade but have been reading that its one of the worst!

Thanks

I slapped together some info from various posts.. dont know if it is helpful or not, feel free to add commetns and stuff.

Oh and sorry abut the formatting, this place doesnt like tables

Personally I use a Curved Sword becuase I like it, had it speed sliced to 1.6 (Currently dont have any footwork, so the spped helps) but I alos recently bought a Stun Baton for tricky targets.

Nearly all the weapons currently available dole out Kinetic Damage, unfortunately this is also the most common resistance, there are two weapons which can help in this situation these are the Vibroblade (Light Armour Piercing) and the Stun Baton (energy Damage).

Other factors that will affect a weapons performance include the Melee Power-up and Slicing, The melee power-up can effect various status, in many cases giving up to a 35% increase in a primary statistic and 16% in a secondary statistic. These Power-ups typically last for 100 uses.

Slicing can give a permanent increase to a weapons speed or damage up-to a maximum of 35%, for fencers without Footwork 4 a speed slice is arguably the better option, but after that the typical fencer with a well crafted sword will hit the speed cap (1.0 at time of writing). After that a damage slice will probably be of more use.

Below are listed all weapons that give One-Handed Experience. Each of them has unsliced average to good statistics. These will vary enormously from server to server and over time depending on resources and weaponsmith availability.

Blade Certification DamageDamage TypeSpeedHAM CostsWound ChanceArmour Piercing

Curved Sword One Handed I 75-170 Kinetic2.1 30/55/3533 None
Rykk Blade One-Handed III 50-150 Kinetic2.7 50/40/3535None
Vibroblade One-Handed II 35-120 Kinetic2.5 16/28/16 Light
Rantok Sword One-Handed IV45-150 Kinetic3.3 None
Stun Baton Novice Fencer 90-132 Energy2.5 18/48/43 None
Gaderiffi BatonOne-Handed I 131-221Kinetic3.5 60/36/16 None

This still doesn’t answer the question which one should I use? Well for a better break down of each weapons capabilities take a look at R/S post here.

But the highlights look to be:

Stun Baton against high Kinetic Protected opponents.

Vibroblade for lightly armoured foes.

Gaderiffi Baton if you want high damage and to hell with the specials cost.

Thanks for the reply Graendael some good info.

I have been reading lately that Gaffi Batons can include poison damage which sounds like a great bonus. Can Weaponsmiths craft weapons with such properties? Maybe Bleed, Stun, Intimidate and so on? I am assuming Stun Batons have the ability to STUN? I have never used one yet so am unsure.

On Curved swords I thought they were just a two-handed weapon? Do they also make a one-handed curved sword?

THanks

There are two types of curved sword, one handed and two handed - so you can get both.

The proc weapons seem to be random loot drops, although it might be indicative that they are on their way to crafters. It should also be noted there has been at least one very good one-handed sword drop withiirc 300+ upper damage limit!

The stun batons do stun type damage which is rarely protected against in armour, and may well be a vulnerability in some (composite?) but it does not actually stun the opponent.

Hi,

I think you can get much better slices. For example, my Gaffi Baton is 156-265 3.4 and my butterknife is 48-162 2.5. I wish I had power to kill some dark jedi or nightsisters by mself (that's where it dropped according to the report) to pick up +300 curved sword, but I gotta satisfy myself with something readily available. ...

Then again, note that you will have to swap your weapon during the fight. Doing bleed with a butterknife isn't effective; you gotta do it with Gaffi Baton. Then swap back for other specials. (For Low lvl Fencers)

Personally, I stopped using Ryyk Blade in favor of Gaffi Baton. I used to use it for "one-hit damage," but Gaffi Baton is overwhelminglybetter suited now. I carry it around along with my Rantok for the purpose of entertaining my customers. (I am a Master Dancer.)

My primary is the butterknife. Real good for special spamming. I live by the specials. I use my stun baton occasionally with tricky ones. For these, I can't spam specials since I need to shoot up some stims.

When a mob is weak to anything, stun for example, any weapon doing that damage type will go right through armor rating. Light armor usually drops damage about 25-35% which is big enough. So if something is weak to stun, automatically get out your stun baton. You can get them dmg sliced to about 100-150 range and still be 2.6 speed or less.

For anything not overly strong agianst kinetic, use a gaffi stick or a curved sword if you don't have footwork. These offer the best dmg/speed ratio.

If your looking for max dmg from a special move (ie 1hand Hit 3) use a gaffi stick. With dmg sliced, you can easily hit for over 2k constantly in PvE. If you want to just do a special for the effect (ie Dizzy / Lunge ) use a vibro blade. For these it doesn't really matter what you get sliced, its just to do a special then switch back to your primary weapon. A decent vibro is around 2.5 speed and 30-110 dmg.

Well i have always been a big fan of vibroblades. The low ham cost allows a user to use the so much more effective specials constantly.Considering i can do body hit 2 about same speed as a normal attack which does near three times the damage towards the health n stead of random. Its a very effective weapon.Get one sliced for damage and factoring in AP its is doin damage near the curved swordlevel. So many people just see the faster curved speed and forget to factor in its ham and the fact with the speed cap itis the same speed as the vibroblade. Vibroblade certainly a way to go

The gaffi stick is truly a weapon in a class by itself. High Ham in health middle in action and low mind. Low speed but high max and min damage. So why is it so popular? Well simply it is the only fencer weapon that factoring inspeed caps keepsup with other brawlers. The HAM can be easily fixed by drinking a tatooine sunburn and speed is fixed by fencer mods. However to weild it to its true perfection one needs money ( for sunburns) anda high skill mod( at least footwork 2).Only flaw iswhen facing armored enemies. Due to armor rating and resists damage can drop very quickly for this 0 ap kinetic type weapon

This brings us to the stun baton. Good max min dam and good speed. Very nice that it does stun type damage. Problem is that it has low to mid 40 for action and mind cost. While this can be solved with buffing like the gaffi keep in mind doctorand dancer buffs only way to go as food/spice buffs arent stacking and no single food/spice buffs both action and mind.Or at least i dont remeber any that do. Keep in mind that due to ap alot of vibroblades can out damage it againistunarmored enemies but when the kinetic resist start piling up this will be your best friend.

In conclusion for a low level fencer i suggust a vibroblade sliced for damage. As you progress and get faster and can afford crates of sunburnslook into damage sliced gaffisticks. Lastly get a stun baton as soon as possible but use it only as needed(always check resist of enemies you are fighting for first time or cant remeber the resists of.
