im working up fencing trying to hit master fencer, and also apply the dodge with defensive acuity.

i only have 15 dodge now, and i seem to dodge alot with a fencing weapon on when i hit center of being. When i take the fencing weapon off and hit center of being, i dont get any dodges at all.

any of you fencers pick up stricking in TK for the defensive acuity, and notice an icrease to your dodge? because vis versa doesn't seem to work, or maybe im doing something wrong.

Defensive Acuity is just another second line defensive skill, just like Dodge, Counterattack, and Block. It is (once they get it working right) amplified by CoB, just like the others, too.

The difference between DA and D, C, and B is that once DA is checked to see if it goes off, it randomly "manifests" as a Dodge, Block, or Counterattack.

DA doesn't stack with any of the other 3; just like Dodge doesn't stack with Block or Counter; Block doesn't stack with Dodge or Counter, and Counter doesn't stack with Dodge or Block.

Dodge from one profession DOES stack with Dodge from another profession (same with Block and Counter)... but it is possible that might change in the future.

All of the above are weapon-dependant, and you must have the appropriate weapon for it to work at full power.

  • Dodge requires a One-handed Weapon or a Pistol

  • Counterattack requires a Two-handed Weapon or Carbine

  • Block requires a Polearm or Rifle (although a current coding mistake makes it appear you are Counterattacking... but you are in fact Blocking)

  • Defensive Acuity requires you to be Unarmed or using a Vibroknuckler

Hope that answers you question.

So Raph what you are saying is that the text description of Defensive Acuity in the TK skill tree when you look at the skill is completely wrong?

Just want to make sure because in the description it says specificallythat it increases the effectivness of Dodge/Counterattack/Block

I dont know where on this board it is, hopefully they made it a sticky but Raph ran some INSANE TESTS on this subject which concluded Defense Acuity is the only of any of the melee classes that doesnt stack into anothers class. I.E pistoleers dodge + fencers dodge, riflemans block + pikemans block, and carbineers counterattack + swordsmans counterattack, they all stack b/c those weps are tied to the mod itself, where as Defense Acuity is tied to unarmed weapons and there a class to themselves.

I wouldn't say completely wrong... just misleading. You can't take all of the ingame skill descriptions at face value.

Examples:

  • Our Finesse Branch description describes the Technique Branch (but should be fixed soon.)

  • Our HealthHits say they "Wound" rather than "Bleed." (but should be fixed soon)

What is means is that the more Defensive Acuity you have, the more you will Dodge. Block, and Counterattack since that's how it manifests. That's just like the"Dodge" Modifier increases the effectiveness of your Dodge skill. It just bad wording, and misleading. That's a big portion of why the TKs are all upset, the skill presents itself as something more than it is.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

Dont mean to shoot you down but before DA came into effect, Tkm's never had any dodge, block, counterattack mods. TKM's just had high unarmed toughness, melee defense and ranged defenses skills to balance out the lack of secondary defense skills.
