I am a master Fencer and I noticed that I do not dodge when fighting creatures. Sometimes it says "you evade the attack" but not dodge. However when I am fighting human npc's I do dodge. Why is this? Is evade the same as dodge?

Evade and dodge is the same thing.

Not sure about this but it could be so simple as "you dodge shots but evade close combat hits".

Something I noticed the other day:

Myself and a group of about 15 other players or so took a trip down to the Death Watch Bunker to se if we could give a fair whirl... Me, a master Fencer/master Rifleman, started up my CoB macro and ran in, fully intent on tanking whatever was in there.

Super Battle Droids, mean buggers. They hit pretty hard, but not too hard, with 80% kinetic armor. But the thing I noticed was that, after reviewing hundreds of lines from my combat spam, I was never missed by, and I never dodged an attack from the SBDs. I'm nearly maxed on melee defense, with an additional +8 from BE clothing, +105 dodge, and CoB, and I was never missed, and never dodged. (Wasn't stunned, intimidated, blinded, etc. either)

Why?

I might be able to understand if they had INSANE accuarcy mods, which, from what I understand, would negate melee defense. But accuracy still doesn't negate dodge, which is rolled after the 'to hit' roll has succeeded. So what gives? Has anyone else had this experience there, or on the Corvette for that matter?

Well, if you're using your rifle then you get no dodge mods whatsoever. And accuracy does effect dodge. When the SBDs make an attack the game rolls a figure and adds their accuracy to it. The game rolls a figure for you and adds your dodge mod to it and then both figures are compared. If the SBD'sfigure is higher than yourfigure then you're hit. This is pretty much how the devs said active defenses worked when I saw them at Fan Fest.

Whenever you dodge an attack your combat log will say "but you evade it." The message used to read "but you dodge out of the way" but was changed. Super battle droids and other high level creatures have 100% accuracy. No matter how much defense you have, they will always hit you.
