Fencer Archive
Thread: took me 2 weeks and now i have it
How did you do it in 2 weeks?!?
I've been using one-hand swords ever since I got the game, in mid-July, and am still only at 1/1/1/1 on the fencer skill tree. I play the game just about every day and it is taking me forever to level up. I have been doing blurrg missions on Endor and huurton on Dantooine but something seems to be wrong here if It takes 2 weeks for you to master fencer and months and months for me to not even be close to mastering the skill.
I seem to have the same problem guys. Been here since Day two and I'm 2-2-1-2. Man sidetracking sure slows you down. On bright side i know pretty much the in and out of every weapon type in the game due to exprience. Maybe i might get the 70k i need to get techiniques 2 tomorrow. Then hopifully the patch defensive bonuses will make getting to techinques 3 much easier, then footwork 3 then probably foot work 4.
PS yes i know i took the scenic route to get to where I am but i dont regret. Also For those wondering i tend to fight things by themselves so spin 2 is of lesser importance to me then Body hit 3.
I owe it all to my arachne webmaster. Being a Master Creature Handler gives me an insane advantage. Beware: Grinding is double edged sword--a lot of the fun in this game is in the journey not the destination. I have simply fallen prey to the Holocron/Jedi craze.
I love being a fencer and hope i get to stay one as long as possible.
For those of you who are curious as to how i accomplished my mastery so quickly:
1. I am a master creature handler -- until this new patch my pets are my only viable tanking option--especially since i'm a poor gimped wookiee who can't wear armor like everyone else.
2. I solo. There are definitely advantages to being in a good group. I group w/ my guild very often. But the majority of groups simply slow you down. This guy has to get a doc buff--this guy's gettin his weapon sliced--this guy is stupid enough to charge headlong into the lair of group aggroing pikets getting the whole group killed.
3. I had master medic through most of my grind -- being able to heal yourself in a pinch and after a rough battle cuts down on downtime TREMENDOUSLY.
4.
owned by lithium...
anyway
4. I used only the best weapons. While grinding the brawler tree all the way to footwork 2, I used a spd sliced curved sword and vibroblade. Open up w/ specials using vibro blade finish em off w/ berserk and the curved sword.
At footwork 2 i traded my weapons in for a spd sliced Gaffi Stick and a dmg sliced vibro blade
Since footwork 4, I've been using a 35% dmg sliced gaffi stick
5. I am buffed always. Dying/incap = downtime = satan
6. Know your enemy! You get no brownie points for fighting things w/ medium armor and 100% kinetic resists. your experience is based only on the actual dmg you do to your opponent. Hunt things w/ High HAM and no armor. I get mildly ill when i think about how many Huurton Stalkers i've sent to their graves.
that's about it. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. Oh as far as playtime goes i avg 3-5 hrs a day--w/ a few marathon 8hr sessions on the weekends sometimes.
Don't pets steal away your xp?
I'm not a CH but I havea pet bantha and I've notice that when I use it I get less xp per kill.
And I was recently in a group doing mawgax missions on Yavin with two other people and about 5 pets and I was getting hardly any xp.
When you get into the higher lvl MOBs (cl 30 and up) the amount of xp you will lose will be nominal.
Also anything worth getting good xp will not be tankable by a bantha. you're gonna need at least a rock beetle and even then you're gonna be healing it constantly.
as i stated earlier--being a master creature handler gives me a huge advantage because i have access to pets that can actually take a beating.
I did Master Fencer in 10 days. Yes, I am a Master CH as well. Pets don't take that much exp away. Did Huurton missions on Dantooine for the awesome wooly hide they were dropping. Collecting for guild, Huntress and Stalkers gave me 3k exp per kill whereas Matrons and Howlers were in the mid 2k range. Also killed alot of Kungas for 3k - 5k a kill depending if it was a Scout/Hunter/Loreweaver/Warrior/Clan Leader.
Kept the grind going and I had 300k combat exp saved up from mastering Carbineer before I went Fencer so I went up the combat exp tree pretty fast.
2 months for me. A month of that was spent in the Squill cave.
I used to have a rock beetle. All it did was piss me off. I used to have a Cowardly Gurreck. All it did was piss me off. Between the server boundary hangs, cavewarping bugs, the constant running off and taking the MOBs with it, and the fact that pets take 3 to 4 times the amount of stims to heal that I do while getting incappeda lot faster than me,I quickly found them to be useless as tanks and that was that. I still find them to be useless to this day. Even mounts do not interest me after racingsome sort of duck/chicken looking thinglast night and keeping up with it.
All I need is my sword, my gaffi, a good suit of armor, and my specialsand I'll gobeat on orstabanything in the galaxy. ![]()
in fact, that's my mentality now. i use a sword. why? it was a good method, blasters only complicate things, and they're cowardly. i don't use a datapad. i use paper and a nub of lead. i don't have a comlink, i uh... ok, so i use a comlink. but you get the idea. old fashioned works.
now i get to make snide comments to my ranged friends.
master brawler helps alot too u can knock anything down and warcry 2 and intimidate 2 VERY useful
