Thread: CoB or Armor
I personally don't wear armor, but i have pistoleer so my dodge is about 315 with CoB on but for a fencer i'd say just get some ubese armor for tkms as they are your biggest concern.
Is the CoB a flat increase or a percentage? Right now my mind is 800/600/600, but witharmor encumberance it becomes 800/54/54 and I alwayskeep moun handy, which is whatI'm trying to get away from. I don't like my fighting style to be dependant upon how much moun I happen to be carrying. My guess is that it is a percentage increase of some type but I haven't figured out exactly how much it actually physically increases my defense. Part of the problem is that the animals I fight seem to differ widely in their attacks on me. For example I've fought mountain dewbacks and never been touched and a few minutes later I'll fight another lair of mountain dewbacks and it seems like every other attack hits me. Luck seems to play as much of a factor in my defense as anything else. Which has made it difficult for me to messure if their attacks are being blocked if I'm having trouble determining how many hits I should be recieving. BTW the mountain dewback example is without CoB. Right now I use CoB when I am caught by some random spawn with my armor off, like spice fiends or desert demons. I'll use that instead of switching to my armor and it seems to work just fine, I don't get hit very often.
I also actively encourage lairs to mob me. I'll drop bleeds on everything in the area so they won't run off and I've noticed that CoB doesn't work nearly as well in these situations as it does when I'm fighting something one-on-one. Which has lead me to wonder if it isn't designed to boost your defense against your active attacker and not against passive attackers (ie, it helps with the one you are hitting but not the other three that are hitting you as well.)
If it helps right now I'm at 3.4.4.3 and I expect to master fencer by tomorrow so my CoB is just about as good as it is ever going to be. I have mastered brawler but have absolutly no other combat skills.
For the time being this isn't critical, but it does affect game play. I'm looking down the road a bit, I'm going to take rifleman next, keeping my fencer and I would like to know everything I can before that time to best use my profession.
To determine how much dodge you have, take your dodge modifier and add your CoB efficency mod to it. At Master Fencer with Master Brawler you have a dodge mod of 230 when using CoB.
I generally run CoB in an infinite loop with the following macro named center:
/center;
/pause 38;
/macro center;
You need to adjust the macro as you level. The macro above is suitable only for a Master Fencer, Master Brawler.
I'm a zabrak with full mind stats (1000/500/900) so my mind regens faster than CoB takes off.
Muon is out of date. My mind is 1100/700/500, I eat that Vegarian whatever thing. +741 Willpower and Focus for 9.75 minutes. Powerboost my mind to 1650, and rip into anything that comes in my path.
0/2/0/2 Fencer
Teras Kasi Master
Master Brawler
Novice Medic
Against a TKM no.
The issue is their accuracy mods. If something has a bad accuracy with CoB you are almost untouchable. A TKM has 205 accuracy so with the 230 dodge while using CoB you will not be hit 100% of the time but for the most part it won't matter.
Like I said, I use CoB religiously. If I'm fighting something that has a chance of killing me, I have it on 100% of the time.
I was looking over my skills to get a better grip on this and I think I am close to understanding it all, yes I'm slow.
My skills are as follows
Dodge +90
1-hand Center of Being +31
1-hand Melee Center of Being +110
So if I understand this correctly the 1-hand melee CoB is added to my dodge for a total of +200? With the +31 being the chance that I will acctually recieve the bonus when CoB is active?
I'm a master doc so I can buff myself, so obviously all my stats have been migrated to mind. (800/1000/1000 I think I'm at? Or is it 1100?) I wear set of full encumb sliced kenetic adv comp. (yes I paid a pretty penny for it.) Pop a Vasarian Brandy or two, I've got +200 to +800 (depending on what I need) to all mind stats. I eat the vagatarian crepes or whatever the hell they're called when I'm really in a pinch. Muon in severe emergencies
With this setup, I can solo ancient bull rancors. I was carrying on a conversation with someone with /tells last night while I had seven (yes seven) bull/rancors attacking me. Oh, and I had been health diseased and mind diseased to the max already--399 and 799 respectively. (Had to use the overhead map to count the red arrows. Spamming the areaswing2 thing when right next to lairs is fun
None of my HAM bars moved. (The H+A bars are bugged, so they never dropped below 800 or 1000.) Well, my mind dropped a little bit occasionally but it immediately regenerated fully. (It was wounded down to 500-650 levels IIRC, so I could see the "end" of the bar.)
Fencer is incredibly powerful. Use armor and COB and you'll be untouchable by most monsters. So far my biggest PvE problem is Intimidate halving my damage.. my macro always heals dizzy first, and I usually get redizzied before I can heal another state. (I have it set to clear Dizzy first for PvP.. I really should make a seperate PvP and PvE Fkey bars.)
Every single PvP death has ended with me dizzy/kd and being attacked by atleast three others. (I'm not huge into pvp yet so I haven't been on raids and full battles, that will probably change. Right now I just pick on other people.
I hope this gives you a little insight as to how much you can actually do with Fencer.. how much you can truly take on yourself. Just get those new foods, eat up, get buffed, USE COB AND ARMOR and you'll be near untouchable.
Final note: I personally noticed a nice increase in dodge when I hit Master. I think the final +stats the master box gives you really does make a difference.
