Well I am a Master Pistoleer. And I was wondering if going up the Defense tree would help me out. I would like to know what melee defense and ranged defense actually do. Thanks

Now I could be wrong about this but I think Melee/ranged defense decrease the amount of damage you take (?). Please, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.


As for doing the defense tree, I'm a Master Pistoleer as well and I find fencer compliments it quite well. It increases dodge to 135 (caps at 125 though).


Your other defenses would be this I think: vs. Blind +40, vs. KD +100, vs. Posture Change (Down) +70, vs. Dizzy +40.


I'm 2/4/0/2 (almost 3. damn combat takes long!) and I'm really enjoying it.

He's wrong,but at least he's trying to help you. Melee and ranged defense have nothing to do with damage taken. Melee toughness will decrease the amount of damage taken while wielding a weapon designed for that profession. Every +1 = 1% damage reduction except when being hit by the broken moves (scatter skiak,shenbit bonecrusher). Also, damage mitigation will limit the highest damage you can take by a single hit. Melee and ranged defense make you more difficult to hit and are basically the same as lowering your opponents accuracy. He will miss you a lot more frequently.

I heard that the Defender trees are bugged, something about the mods not working, is this true?

If it is working fine,is it worth taking these trees?



And my last sets ofquestions are: has anyone tested Melee and Range Defense mods (not just in defender) and do these help a lot, what are some good numbers to have.


I am currently at 107 range defense and 92 Melee defense




These seem like very n00bish questions about defense mods but I have never really explored them.

it caps at 125 if that helps, and everything always has a 5% chance to hit or miss regardless of mods. Basically, if your defense is higher than the attackers accuracy, they have a good change of missing. I have 118 melee defense and 98 ranged defense and still get hit all the time by everything. It's a f'ed system I bet the devs don't even know if it's working or not.
