I used to be a CH (among a few other things

Pets are fun. I absolutely loved my bio-engineered kittens & spiders (some bio-engineered - cost me in excess of up to 300K each). As a master CH you can have two kick-a$$ tanking pets (2 x level 35) with over 500 damage each, 60% kinetic resistance and strong special attacks (disease & poison are pretty good). Also, taming, training and mounting is actually fun (you remember fun, don't you? Not mindless jedi grind )

There is, however, two "problems" with CH:

Timing
It takes a while to "call" and then "store" a pet. When you're running missions, you don't want to wait ~20-30 seconds after a fight to put your rancor back into your datapad...

Buffs
If you are an elite combat class and are buffed, pets are pretty much... well... useless. As a fencer you're going to have pretty good defenses and won't really need an additional tanks (except when facing Elders or other high-end mobs, in which case your animals won't last too long anyway). I've recently went ahead with master fencer (again), TK & Swords and don't really miss CH too much...

But again... Pets are definitely fun
