Thread: Melee Tanks, and our Purpose
That's all good and fine, but the truth is, I really can't last that long without buffs and armor on. When I do have those things though, I can easily tank for my group and such, but the fact is, with great kinectic resist armor and doctor buffs, so could a pistoleer or BH (among others).
So instead, I end up just relying on the CH, and usually end up running if I get aggroed. We need it fixed so we can take face a big bad ol' red con mob (not a thug, those are easy), and live to tell about it.
Now, I'm not saying we should be able to solo them. But in a good sized group with some decent damage outputters, we should be able to let the target wail on us and not have to worry about dying so much if we have stims or there is a medic in the group.
That's our niche in PvP, and we shouldn't only be able to obtain it through doctor buffs, entertainer buffs, and super armor.
How can this be fixed?
For starters, our status effects need to have a much greater impact on the beasties.
KD needs to be improved in PvE.
Most of all though, we need more toughness, and defenses.
For all melee classes though, I propose we get a 'creature defense bonus'. Where as it wouldn't effect our defense in PvP, but it would really help us take damage in PvE.
I'm really just tired of pistoleers being better at melee fighting than ourselves, its ridiculous. Commandos are also incredible 'melee' fighters in PvE, most of them are finally discovering that their brawler roots are really worth something, as they're all beginning to use warcry now.
We need our niche, I don't want to be the gal who has to run up to the thing, get at a good range, and start attacking while crossing my fingers that the pet holds the aggro.

Except that they have a 2.5x modifier against them right now so they can't take melee damage. Have you seen their complaints about it?
If most of the changes on test go live you will be happy. Center of Being looks to be very cool.
Digital I completly agree with your enthusiasm and I believe, as you seem to that we are not nearly as broke as we could be.. none the less their still leaves a lot of room for improvement. Changes on test seem to be steps in the right direction.
Basically wrote this post just to rebute one comment.. under current game conditions, excluding one combatant having doc buffs and the other not, or wide variations in quality of equipment a master TKA will beat a master fencer 99% of the time. It's not a move order thing, nor does it have to do with skill, speed, weapon, etc. etc. they are simply stronger then us right now. They hit harder, faster AND have better defense as well as buffs, meditate... /rant off
Fencer still #1 in my book.. kinda pisses me off that TKA is getting even bigger improvements currently on test then we are, when they are already amongst the most powerful profs.. oh well.

Hi,
I think Fencer Profession is pretty good.Just yesterday, I was taking out RED CONs. And, I didn't even have Master Footwork. Now I have it, I think I dish out 2-4K in a matter for few second.
In terms of taking damage, I take about 100-200 if I get fit by White/Yel/Red Cons. But Idont get hit oftenand if I do, they generally are intimidated too. (so they hit like low 50s)
When I have Doc/Ent buffs, I can take on 3 White and Yellow Cons without armor. Really cool spectacle to see me drop them with BlindSpin. Yes, we can rule a PVE too.
I killed many white/yellow con faction mobs. And KD works fine. 50-60% But I generally don't have to because I intimidate first. I might have problems with Nightsisters and Stuff of Dathomir, but I don't go solo if I have to be on Dathomir/Dantooine or any place dangerous.
I think Armor is cool thing to put on. I love the thing. I bought matching outfit to go with it. ... I look better than most people in my group. ![]()
Getting aggroed is a part of business. I mean we get to be the closest. It is a matter of time. It's hard.
Some professions only require time and effort. I think Fencer Prof requires wits as well. Yep ... we are elite-elite class. Think of it that way.Wemust beand aresmarter, more agile, andmore quick-witted. (otherwise, stay on the poach with some blasters.

P.S. TKA? I saw a BladeMaster beat up a TKM two out of three. You got problems with that?
