Thread: FENCER MY A$$
don't PvP much eh? but it does suck that my best overall weapon is a gaderiffi baton. i'd much prefer the curved sword being much more useful.
Personally i dont mind the graphical display of our weaponary, although i do find it alittle confusing as to why are best raw stats weapon is a Gaderiffi Baton. Just to add abit to what a previous poster put i believe it was johnboy? Stun batons are good for pvp unless the player has some sort of stun resist even a 1% stun protection will result in the stun baton dealing heavly reduced damage.
Example
Joe hits Bill for 100 damage, Bill recently purchased a piece of armour with 1%stun protection and light armour rating.
Joe's 100 damage hit is reduced by half because of the light armour against no armour piercing.
100/2=50
then reduced by 1% because of the protection.
50/1=49.5(i dont no how the rounding system on damage works)
Fencer = 1 handed expert. Stop thinking your going to be swinging from the lights with a foil because it's labeled 'Fencer'. A baton is a one handed weapon... why can't it be the best weapon to use?
I say give me a tomahawk and a whip!
Fencer is just like any other elite combat profession (apart from TK, commando and BH). The weapons you gain before you even reach novice are better to spam with, but the weapons you gain at novice are tactical and extremely useful.
Let me describe 2 situations, as a master pistoleer/rogue, the FWG5 was my side arm, gained in the marksman pistol tree. It has massive damage, but then you come across a critter with 80% resist to heat, simple, switch to the DX2, damage is less, but the light AP and acid damage make it useful.
As a master fencer, at the moment, the gaffi stick (sp?) has great damage, there's no doubt about that. It is the weapon of choice in normal combat with fencer. However, when fighting certain creatures (rancors for example) the stun damage that the stun baton does is valuable as some creatures can have 70%+ resistance to kinetic but vulnerability to stun. Also, in pvp, all the other melee classes have no chance against a person armored in 80% resist composite. But, the fencer gets the stun baton and it goes straight through the armor.
Remember, it's not the weapon that matters, it's how you wield it.

This all depends if the person has stun layers though.
to a point I agree In Beta they decided to go with "Fencer" instead of "Duelist" but going by words of titles
Novice Fencer - Aprentice Swordsman
4 Tree Titles - Duelist Bladesman Fencer Blade Weaver
Master Fencer - Blademaster
That kinda gives you the hint that we should be useing 'blades', but on the other hand look at our list of weapons
Combat Knife - Blade
Stone Dagger - Blade
Dagger - Blade
Gaff Baton -Baton
Curved Sword - Blade
Rykk Blade - Blade
Vibro Knife - Blade
Rantok Sword - Blade
Stun Baton - Baton
7 Blades 2 Batons, 1 AP Weapon (Blade) Best damage output ( Gaff baton ) Stun damage ( Baton ) So the wording of our proffesion is not all that off 77% of our weapons are blades.
Why do most people use Gaff's Mind cost being the my best guess.
for rough estimate
say you have a 150 max damage depending on the skill you use will effect you damage output (duh)
Modifier of just hitting 1.86
Prone modifier 1.5
Onehandhit3 modifier 6
so max damage you are looking at roughly 2500
75% PvP reduction will drop it to 625
AP0-AR1 50% reduction will drop it to 312
35% Stun resist drops it to final of 203
Rifleman get the same deal....we get the t21 at novice rifleman....ok so its a great weap, but still the only new one we get grinding the entire rifleman tree.
As for the stun baton, have u ever examined some creatures? SO many of them have vulnerabilties to stun or at least little to no resistance vs stun. I find myself using it extensively in combat....and I never pvp.

IhopeI dont surprise you, but sometimes people run and gun from greater than 20 meters.
