I'm still a little irked about lunge. I didn't play fencer since launch. It was my 2nd pvp profession and I loved it even after they fixed the toughness bug and our damage was cut in half.
I remember many many battles where dodge allowed me to be the last person standing.
I attempted pvp without lunge as a knockdown the other day and was completely lost. F2 has lost all its glory.
I've always been melee in pvp.Once I completed my Jedi I made my alt a fencer doc which was what I always was before, but I'm having a hard time justifying still being melee.
I fought a pistoleer with my Jedi the other night and it was flat out painful to get past the roots and snares. I killed him, but I know for a fact without FR1 and all my defenses that my fencer would have been literally dead in his tracks.
How do you people justify staying melee? I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing.

IMO, melee is still king of solo/small group xp grinding. As a Mfencer/MTKA and enough swords to get area taunt, i can hold several mobs at bay while my 1 or 2 friends helps me tear em up. Ranged professions just cant compete with improved CoB , theres just nothing in their arsenel to compete. Although if you do have enough ranged profs and they are all on the same page, then they can be quite the force because their damage potential will eclipse their survivablilty. But with only 2 people, myself and a Mrifles/Mdoc, we can take on multiple lvl 85 elite nighsisters and not break a sweat, that would just not be possible if we were both ranged profs.

Well, right before they removed KD from lunge, I was involved in someGCW PvP, and I found that in large groups, I wasn't relying on lunge as much. It's main use was when a melee or jedi was attempting to leave combat to heal or go aftermy own group'shealer. Idid relyon it more heavilywhenever it came down to aone-on-one encounter, since lunge was our best equivalent to saber throw, but then again the range of saber throw is so much more than lunge thatlunge isreally notthat muchbetter than the pike or tka KDs. Sometimes6 meters is enough, though. Inever duel, and when I get into GCW fighting, it's usually organized, so one-on-one performance is not as important to me.
For PvE, melee are still the best tanks, so melee is obviously still the best choice for soloing, because you can simply be your own tank. I've played ranged post-CU, and I like it very much, but I don't like kiting, so I just carry some of the new non-certed rifles like the trandoshan hunting rifle if I want to use ranged in a given situation. I've actually finished off kiters in PvP with this rifle, even without anyranged skills, so I'm pretty comfortable as a full melee.
