If i use my flamethrower in combat, will I still keep my fencer defense? Last night I fought Gurks with Gad.baton and after getting enough fencer XP, I switched to my flamethrower for higer damage numbers, and faster killing. I noticed my health dropped a lot faster after the weapon switch.

So will I loose my defense if I dont use fencer weapons?

You loose your melee mitigation(sp) when you are wielding another weapon that isnt melee

You also lose the ability to CoB while holding a different weapon and the ranged version of it is gimped.

You don't lose melee mitigation. That's always there regardless of the weapon used. What you do lose is your one-handed toughness since you have to have a fencer weapon equiped to gain this benefit. Granted, the toughness for fencers isn't all that high (compared to swordsman and TKA) but it still helps a lot.

You only lose the toughness and the dodge (unless you hold a launcher pistol). But to really be effective as a commando/fencer. Equipt a 1-h weapon, and only use the commando expendables, this way you get all the fencer defenses, and some decent weapons.
