Thread: Confused on speed
Ok, I am reading that the speed cap is at 1.0.
So, assuming I have a weapon that is 1.5, and I've working up the Footwork tree, does the speed skills in that tree make myattack roundfaster than 1.5? If this is the case, does anyone have any idea how mcuh the speed affects the attack round per 10 points or so?
Would it not benefit me more to get a higher delay weapon with higher damage, since my inate speed will bring it down to the cap anyway?
Also, maybe a smuggler can answer this here, but can smugglers concentrate on damage only on slices, or are speed/damage tied to each other? If they are seperate, assuming what I stated above was true, then would I not want to get a higher damage slice, and not worry about speed?
Speed mods are a percentage off the delay. +80 speed mod means that your weapon's delay is now 0.2x the listed, or 5 times as fast. At 100 speed mod, you cap with any weapon using any special.
Special moves have a delay modifier. This is a multiplier to the delay of the weapon. All the modifiers (speed mod and special move delay) are applied before the cap (this is why you can cap speed with a special).
Smugglers *cannot* choose if they will slice damage or speed. This is probably the single biggest pet peeve of my smuggler friend: people complain that they didn't get the type of slice they wanted. Similarly, with armor, smugglers don't get a choice of slicing encumberance or effectiveness. It's random. But yes, at high levels of speed, damage slice is much more useful than a speed slice.
If you are capping with your weapon with whatever type of attack you're doing, special or autoattack, you may benefit from a slower, higher damage weapon. The degree of benefit depends a lot on the actual values involved, and the usefulness of the weapon will of course also depend on things like HAM cost, accuracy, etc.
