Thread: Novice Weaponsmith looking for advice on Swords from those who've used them?
I hate that enter button. Sorry![]()
Anyway I wanted to ask some advise from people who've used swords about what they'd look for if they were stepping off the ship for the first time all over again.
I just madeNovice Weaponsmith today and celebrated by making some plain Jane sword's. I'd found some really good quality steel and had enough to make 6 of them. Of the 6,I destroyed 3 because they hadn't turned out that well. The one'sI kept were 23-84 to 26 -85 in damage no delays longer than 4.3 and nothing higher in the HAM than 30.
What I'd like to know is, will that be an item that a new player would have use for or would he just want to save his money for a higher level weapon? I priced them on the Bazaar for instant auction for between 200 - 225 thinking even a newbie should have that much on him.
Also when I'm working on the weapons to improve them would damage, delay or lower HAM costs be the most important thing to shoot for?
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the information. I'll work on speed for the next batch I make up
.
As for the price I think another few weeks and I'll be lucky to get even 200. Once the factories start coming on line and people trade up their old weapons there's going to be a glut on the market. That aspect of the game economy wasn't really thought through very well. After all there's only going to be 3500 people per server and a factory can make up to 100 of an item from a schematic?
But this would be more of a hobby for me. ( A hobby in a game
? Got to have something to get away from the grind
). So we'll see how it goes.

I have a somewhat differing opinioin.
Well, actually it really depends on what you're trying to do.
Speed is definitely the most important thing for a 1h sword brawler and probably a beginning novice fencer. But once you start getting some fencer speed bonuses, it seems anything 3.Xwill do.
HAM cost and Damage is what is most important to me now, but that's because I do a lot of pvping.I have a sliced Rantok that is 171 dmg at 3.3 and a sliced 181 dmg curved sword at 2.6 speed and can't decide which is better because of the rantok's low ham cost. PVP is all about dmg and ham...fights don't last more than a couple seconds unless you're chasing someone around as a fencer, 1 or 2 hits will usually do a person at full health in. And I disagree about fencer not being heavy hitters...no one can doas much dmg as us in one hit except maybea 2h swordman.
In large groups vs mobs, I rely heavily on specials+speed for doing good dmg fastand getting xp...having high ham cost is terrible in these situations.
Soloing vs npc humanoids: I rely heavily on lunge+dizzy...with +20 to speed I get two dizzys in even with a slowweapon.Lunge+dizzy hardly seems to work well though these days. Stormtroopers almost never go down after the first lunge+dizzy and if though do...they almost instantly get back up.I spend a lot of ham doing multiple lunge+dizzy. It all also depends on what you to do after they are knocked down. You can hit them with your normal and not lose ham. I prefer to hit them with bodyshot 2 when they're down, but then again I'm a master medic zabrak whose always healingmy own action and health while regenning mind (850 willpower). Ham and Speed are the best for soloing.
I don't solo creatures unless it's for missions or hide. I can kill much more worthwhile npcs xp wise. However, I do like to do hit and runs on powerful creature nest...hehe dmg+speed is good for that.
HAM is probably the most important thingoverall because I'm always using specials...whether it's PvP, Solo, or grouped. Hurting myself is not good. I'd never use something really slow because of lunge and dizzy. But if something is reasonably fast, I will start looking more at it's (especially min) dmg...mostly for pvp.
For a beginning swordsman I believe the delay time can be critical between getting a lunge+dizzy off or not. This goes with all swords of all qualities I think (mostly, for 1h people like us). Speed is so important. If I had a choice, and was a weaponsmith, speed is definitely the key factor in craft decision making.
