Thread: Question about this whole 'PvPers running away' thing, from a non PvP standpoint
I can't honestly say that I have had more than 3 or 4 pvp duels in the 3 months that I have played this game. But I would like to ask/suggest something to you pvp fencers.
When you are in a duel, and that ranged guy starts running away... have you ever run the other direction?
I mean... the other guy's purpose of the duel is to win, right? And yours is (presumably) to not lose, right?
Well... if you start charging that other guy and he starts running... what would he do if you just turned around and ran the hell the other way? I mean, if I was *him* I'd chase after you once you got out of my range. And then I'd keep chasing once you kept running. Now, I know that theres a good chance that they can hit you while running, and stop you in motion while your running, but thats why you *keep* running. Until you can get behind a wall or inside a building or something where they cant hit you. And then, if they are foolish enough to close the range so that they *can* hit you, you just run up to them and do your little stabbity stabbity upon them.
And of course, if the other guy doesnt give chase, then you didnt lose and he didnt win, so everyone is happy, right?
Oh, and if the other guy sends youa tell asking why you ran away, you can be like "Well, you were going to be an arse and take advantage of my disadvantage, I decided to be an arse and screw you out of the cheesy win."
And then, if he gripes at you, you can make a proposal.
"All right, heres the deal. We'll try again, to give you some range advantage, I'll start from 64 meters away and charge you. You can't move.If I get to you, you can't run away. My melee can still work, and your ranged can still work. May the best duelist win."
If the other person wont agree to that... well, you got to infuriate them by cheating them out of a kill, and you offered them a fair (ish) tradeoff.
Now, like I said, I dont Pvp. So I dont know if this would work or not, but it might be fun to try out. Heh heh heh.
one point however: in PVP (if it's not a duel) there are no rules. i don't hold anything against kiters. if we can't come up with a way to get them, that's our problem. kiting is a convenient excuse for "i can't think of a strategy". yeah, that's harsh, but i will absolutely use EVERYTHING i have to win. and so should they. if i win a fight with a guy and he's "honorable" and refuses to run, then the only reason i won is because he crippled himself. and that doesn't feel like a victory.
using your strategy is a great idea, and completely valid. i don't call it cheap, because kiting isn't cheap. it's just a method of winning. everyone knows that toe-to-toe with a fencer, anyone but a bounty hunter or commando (maybe) would go down most of the time. everyone knows that if kited, a fencer is useless. it's getting around those two facts that makes you a strategist.
all's fair in love and war, but no one loves to lose. so there's always one person claiming the fight wasn't fair. the only way i can see to eliminate this pettiness is to acknowledge that unless it's a duel (which has rules as it should) fights are fair no matter what.
just my take on it though. it keeps my blood pressure down, and my fun easily within reach.
