Thread: Not to complain, but what are your thoughts on this

Well I revently mastered fencer 2 days ago before the patch. I really had no interest in scatter hit and didn't plan on using it to my advantage in PVP, frankly, i'm glad it was changed. However I am seeing an issue in actually doing any damage to another melee type with a full set of stun armor. Now i think to myself, hey i'll use a vibroblade, it has AP, not effective. So Gaffi? no AP. Keep in mind i don't have the best baton in the world as it's from a firend at 200 max damage.


You may assume that i chose fencer because it was "FOTM" or scatterhit, as I've seen a few fencers assume so and absolutely just flame and bash someone that most likely does not deserver it. I hope that you can reconize that i'm not trying to complain here, rather than find out how other fencers get around this in PVP.


So my question is: "How do you go about doing some kind of damage above...let's say 50 to another character in stun armor with a PSG that's melee? or do you also do very low damage?"

Another quick question, Do you think that the fencer class needs more than one AP1 weapon? Or to go even further an AP2?

Try a dizzy/kd or posture down. You'll do more damage when they're on their back. Also, are you intimidated? It cuts your damage in half. It's a good idea to intimidate first, then dizzy, then kdor posture down. While your opponent is on his back then use either bodyhit3 or scatterhit2 (for mind damage) until he dies or if he gets back up then repeat. You would also do more damage with a better baton, gaffi, and (if you choose to use it) vibroblade. If your opponent is using stun armor and a psg you should do a bit more damage with your vibroblade or gaffi because they're kinetic resist should be a bit lower. Fencer is supposed to do little damage but very quickly so don't expect to be doing mass amounts of damage. Just wait it out and you'll eventually come out on top, remember to always keep them intimidating.

And to answer your second post, I do believe that we need another sword with ap. It would be niceto have something without a vibro-motor since good ones can cost a bunch.It may be, though,that the devs don't think fencing weapons shouldn't have ap and the only reason the vibroblade has it is because it has a vibromotor. It would be nice to have an ap2 weapon but we'd be uber uber 1337 then and it would unbalance things completely. Fencer's would be soloing krayts and acklay much faster than a swordsman or rifleman (unless they had speed tapes). So no, we shouldn't get ap2.

no complaining about bugfixes, that's true. i'd like anywayto draw attention to the things that'll need adressing in combat balance (it's been done and redone, i know) :


Fencers weakness :

- low max damage

- only 2 types of damage, Stun AP0, Kinetic AP1

- best weapons are ugly


Fencers strenghts:

- high speed

- high defense

- fencer combat is Stylish


At first sight this sounds quite balanced, BUT its broken when considered in the Big Picture:

- low max damage, with the actual composite-buffs situation, converts to no-damage-at-all

- many "slower" professions hit the same speedcap. so we end up just as fast as high damage dealers.

- our touted high defenses are totally bypassed by high-end MOBS insane accuracy, the high end part of the game is closed to us



Now, brothers and Sisters Fencers, Reapeat the supreme mantra : "Everything will be adressed in combat balance,oooooom"

Well some of this has already been touched on, but here is my thoughts.


First, you need to accept you don't hit as hard as others. A Fencers strength isn't how hard he hits, it's that he hits more often then he gets hit.


First always have COB running, this helps a lot. Then always keep him blinded and intimidated, coupled with COB, you will hardly get hit.


Now, don't shy away from Scatterhit, Fencer haters say we use it because it is bugged. When the reality is that it was only bugged against 3 professions and not nearly as bugged as many people complained about. The reality is that the only reason (well main) we used it was because it is our only way to hit Mind. Health and Action can be healed, Mind can't. 90% of all PVP battles are won or lostover mind. Use scatterhit.


Now as to which weapon to use. If your really doing pathetic damage with stun, switch to your GAD, you should hit harder. If your damage doesn't really go up, then switch back to Stun and swing away until his PSG wears out. Dizzy and Lunge for a posture change will also increase your damage if you can get him on his back.


For those really really hard to kill people, sometimes a good Mind Fire or Mind Poisen is your only true chance.

ScatterHit gave us another way to hit for full damage instead of bouncing off heavy armor. Now thats it gone you'll have to go back to the old school tactics we used before to combat someone. I hear alot of people compare fencer to pistoleer. Both have great defenses but low damage potential.


On the other hand, pistoleers have access to every damage sans cold with 3 AP1 weapons. Fencers get kinetic and stun with 1 AP1 (which is alsohappens to be ourweakest weapon). If they boosted the vibroblade up just a little more it would be a viable PvP and PvE weapon. TKM can get away with 180 damage vibro knucklers (higher if enhanced) since they have the +250 unarmed damage bonus but fencers cannot


So if TKM is getting access to a new damage type weapon (heat based VK) then do we get one too?


Fencers never did more damage than swordsmen. Come to think of it fencers dont do more damage than any of the melee professions. But when you see someone getting beat on with a stun baton you fail to realize that they are being hit for full damage instead of the 70%+ resists.
