Thread: Unbuffed Combat
Currently I am playing a fencer 4243, master dancer, entertainer 0044, scout 0040, brawler 0400 and I have difficulties doing an avarage mission of what the (faction) terminal offers me (most missions are between 3.5 and about 6.2 k credits). May latest idea was to get a better shield generator and downgrade my armor to Ubese. So far this seems to work out fine. But I am still not sure...
The following tactics I tried, though I wasn't really pleased with one of them.
- Just center
Don't use any special attacks, don't intimidate, just center. Gives you the opportunity to not care about the weapons special attack cost and use a real heavy weapon. Fighting this way is rather boring, 'cause you spend your time watching, but seems to be most effective.
- Dizzy and intimidate
You blind and intimidate your enemies. You try it only once, 'cause it's simply impossible to affort several trials. This works out of you fight enemies that vary greatly in power and you wanna terminate the biggest threat first. But all in all I had not much success with this strategy...
- Spin attacks
You stand in the middle of them, center and do spin attacks with a weapon that's relativly slow but deals much damage (I usually prefer faster weapons). Has the advantage that you don't have to fear anyone would fire at you next to none existant energy protection. But usually it's just not enough. Would only be helpful if you were surrounded by really many really weak enemies
I tried variants with dizzy and posture change, but so far it has proven completely worthless, since it costs way to much points for a way to low success chance and a way to few gain if you succeed. Further minor tactics I currently use are:
- Let them run
It's better to not follow enemies running away, you always have to focus on the current threat. I died a couple of times because of this, 'cause I had the enemy firing at me when all other were defeated, but all in all you take way less damage.
- Wait for the moment
Don't attack an enemy if you still have tef, it's better to wait. Don't attack as long as the enemy is spread over a big area, if they arn't completely seperated, wait 'til they are relativly near to get them into close combat. Or seperate them completely if you can. I even use a carbine untrained quite successfully to achieve that.
- Never run away
This is the only strategy of which I am more or less sure. It's simply whenever you run away, you have to decide when you still could fight, but you will be damn close to edge when you press the burst run button. You will probably die then.
That's my thoughts so far. There are more minor thoughts... but my time is running out. If any of you has suggestion for improvements or sees anything that she thinks is wrong please post.

First, you need to be extremely careful of encumberance. Encumberance is bad. That's why I bought 50% chiton. The stuff is great. After that, have some good stim-b's and some bluemilk. That's it. I can take out the red-con cat on Naboo fairly reliably with just chiton.
The second thing about fighting unbuffed is that you must be very careful of spamming your specials. Patience. Exercise your patience.
Third, you must learn what kicks your butt and what doesn't. I never take spineflap missions. I can beat them, but ouch, they hurt! I also avoid NPC's, as they pull out specials that can one-shot you. Knowing your own weaknesses is part of mastering a profession!
You can also use stim-b's and vasarian brandy. I took out four fambaa that way, and otherwise unbuffed.

I have an idea for fighting things unbuffed... DON'T!!!
not everyone can afford to shell out 10k every time they want to go fighting solo. with just brandy, some good armor, and some good knowledge of what is too much to handle and you can do fine without buffs. Me personally i only will buff if im going with a team.
i am only novice fencer and can take down an ikopi stag(ch30) with just using composite chest/bracers/and leg armor, i dont spam specials alot so that keeps me alive.
besides always buffing makes things too easy

I wonder if some of you have some strategies to do missions unbuffed while only using fencer skills.

go master fencer first and use a vibroblade, itll be a lot easier then.
> dunno why everyone thinks it fun to fight unbuffed wearing armor.
Unbuffed but in armour does seem a little strange. But buffed and armoured isn't tremendously exciting when there's no fear of damage either from your opponents or your specials. Sure if you are grinding to master then buffing and spamming is going to be the most efficient. If you actually want to enjoy the game you are doing yourself a disservice by taking away all elements of danger.
Good places to fight unbuffed and in clothes:
Fort Tusken
In the unlikely event it isn't camped there is fun to be had. Seeing a warlord use scatter hit 2 on you is interesting. Intimidate, dizzy and lunge are your friends.
Tusken village
This place isn't hard but if you come across a new spawn you're in for a fast and furious fight.
Tusken bunker
Who ever tires of killing Tuskens?
Squill cave
Squills. Lots of squills. Bleed 'em, intimidate 'em, blind spin liberally. Pack a stun baton and some stims.
Blue Leaf Temple
Dark klikniks abound. They are more than happy to gank you. Keep them intimidated and blinded and try to wear them down. Warcry and heal where appropriate. Don't be shy of running away if you can draw one out from the pack.
Geonosian biolab
Safe if you have plenty of stims and if you stick to crazed geonosians. Anything stronger will wtfpwn you in short order. You might be able to hook up with a grinding creature handler and let him have his pet guard you.
