I've been seeing (and feeling) a lot of disdain towards our two main weapons: the gaffi and the stun baton. Out of that disdain I went shopping for weapons one day just to see how bad the "swords" that we have really are. I came across a "rancor tooth sword" with a max damage around 222 and speed at 4.0 and snatched it up as that was near the stats of most pre-sliced gaffi sticks on my server, which is my staple PvP weapon when I'm out killing NPCs for loot.
Long story short, I've looked into using rancor teeth in weapons and have had several made. I am now the proud owner of 3 different "swords" all comprable to the gaffi I had been using for PvE. One thing to note about rancor teeth is they lower minimum damage considerably, however, that's not something that concerns me much for killing stormies, janta and such. Another note, not all rancor teeth will give these results. The ones you need to look for will have around 85 or better max damage and 0.7 or lower speed. These will turn out Ryyk Blades and curved swords with somewhere near 220 damage (or better with better teeth) and about 3.4-3.6 speed, just like the typical gaffi.
I was so excited about this I petitioned my guild members to give up their teeth to me and got a load of 6-97 damage .5 speed teeth (9 total). They are currently sitting on the local weaponsmith's vendor waiting to be turned into my new toys. I'll post the sliced results after they are made if this generates enough interest. I know this doesn't do much for PvP, but it sure makes me happy to see myself swinging a shiny sword while taking out hapless Mokks.

Due to Mitigation in the game you should honestly look more at the Min dmg of the weapon if your going to use it in PvP instead of the max dmg. Sadly the min dmg is where the rancor teeth falter at.

I slipped up and put PvP in the top of the message, I guess that's what stuck in your mind. I'm mainly talking for PvE here, as the rest of the paragrapshs are about.

I agree with Myrddin that the saber's aren't too bad for pve, however, for pvp they just dont cut it.

Ok, just got the swords back and sliced, I had 5 ryyk blades and 4 curved swords made with 6-97 damage 0.59 speed rancor teeth. I only got 2 slices near the 30% damage mark (about what I expected). Now I have 3 great PvE weapons that don't look like clubs.
Here are the stats (with the sword I had bought earlier):
Sword:
Min: 42
Max: 303
Speed 4.0
Ryyk Blade
Min: 46
Max: 283
Speed 3.6
Curved Sword:
Min: 49
Max: 293
Speed 3.4
These swords work great for fighting most things that I use fencer for, (I use TK or Swordsman for most things that have armor) mostly money missions and any time I want to do PvE without armor (that dodge is great isn't it?). I posted all of this mainly becuase I had been hearing all along that rancor teeth are horrid, worthless, don't use them. I found that to be untrue and wanted to show the rest of you out there that are tired of using clubs instead of swords. Also it goes to show that while advice from others is sometimes useful, make sure that you aren't following blindly. Go out and try some things for yourself. I apologize for the confusion in my earlier post, the PvP thing was a typo. I had never planned on using these for PvP, just something fun to use out in the PvE world to add a little flavor and flash to fencer, the way it should be.
So with my 3 swords at hand, I'll be pingin' and plangin' my way through hoards of Stormtroopers, Janta and any other less than high end content that comes my way. Happy hunting, go try out something like this for yourself.
One more thing, does anyone know how good looted Geo Sword cores can get? I'd really like to see some swords made with those because they are a little better on the low end of the damage range and like rancor teeth, not many people know what to do with them so they should be pretty easy to come by and cheap.
