Thread: Question reguarding defenses

Hey all,

I am a master fencer and I recently dropped BH due to the bugged out jedi system, topic for another forum, so I have a few skill points to play with and was curious about how defenses work. For example, I am already MF/pistoleer 1/0/4/3. I did some number crunching and found that I can add +85 block to my template by getting 0/0/4/0 Pikeman.


Now my question is, if I were to do this, would block even take effect since my main weapons are 1 handed? I am under the impression that block would only work if I have a polearm in my hand. Also does the added dodge I get from pistoleer get negated when using 1H weps?

Dodge works exclusively with Pistoleer and Fencer (cap of +125)

CounterAttack works exclusively with Carbines and 2hand Sword (Cap of +125)

Block works exclusively with Pikeman and Rifleman (Cap of +125)


Block will only help you if you are currently holding either a Rifle or a Pike.



just a note: melee defense, ranged defense, and all state defenses are effective at any time while holding any weapon.

The above statement is correct!


But if you want to mix & match the state defense's that pike & sword have will stack. So, you will be hard as h3ll to dizzy,stun,posture change, kd....etc You will be a state defense tank!

What about the damage mitigations? Like if I'm master pistoleer I'd have ranged mitigation 1,2,3. So if I do Smuggler also I get a ranged mitigation . Does that somehow stack onto the mitigation I get from pistoleer? Also if I do fencer I get a melee damage mitigation. Do I get that if I'm using a pistol??

The short of it:


ranged and melee mitigation cap at 3. doesn't matter what type of weapon you are holding, your ranged/melee mitigation is always "on".

Thanks to everyone who responded here. I have one last question, You say that dodge works when holding a pistol or a 1 H wep, but do you get the full amount if you have dodge from pistoleer and fencer?


Say I have +90 from fencer and + 40 from pistoleer ( I am pulling numbers out of my bum) When I am holding a 1 H Wep do I get the full +130? or just the +90? and vise versa, only +40 from pistoleer when holding pistol?

Dodge, Block, counterattack, defense vs states, ranged defense, and melee defense all stack. meaning the "+90" dodge from pistoleer and the "+115" dodge from fencer stack (when you are holding a pistol or 1hand)- BUT, there is a cap on how much dodge you can have. so even if you have +200 dodge in your skillsheet, you are actually limited to +125. so having more than +125 is useless.

indeed, thank you. I was aware of the cap thats whyu i only kept 1/0/4/4 pistoleer, just wanted tomake sure it was actually doing something.

I am not sure but the 125 cap is only a cap from your own skills, you can get another 25 from skill modifing gear. Correct me if I am wrong

you mean if i am capped at 125 melee def, the my backpack +3, shirt +4, pants+4 etc. do count in addition to my 125 melee defenses?

Yes I was told the cap is 150.

125 from the toon and 25 from skill tapes, bio clotes and stuff like that.

still you might wanna get this confirmed.

Technically SEA's/Bio Clothing goes above cap up to +25, and theoretically Melee Defense Food would also another up to +25.

But I think there is a bug somewhere with overcapping and adding CoB. I would need to run metrics tests to be sure but it'll be a moot point anyway soon.

Are you refering to the combat rebalance or the reoccuring macro nerf I have heard about?
