Thread: Aggro/Taunt System

Anyone know about or have a link to information on how the aggro/taunt system works?

I don't really like the aggro system that's in place. Don't take this as a complaint, more of a discussion or possible improvement.

I'm used to games like EQ and DAoC where whoever does the most damage or taunts the most gets hit the most. I was fighting nitches last night and testing a bit. It seems to me, that 90% of the time, the nitches just attack who's closer. I've got two examples:

1.) If someone has a tamed creature hitting the nitchalready.. I wait and let the nitch get hit about 3 times. If I walk up and hit the nitch for 300 damage once he instantly starts hitting me. I have to back up so that I'm just barely in range and so the tamed creature is closer then the nitch. Then I don't get hit at all unless the stupid tamed creature gets called elsewhere or moves for some reason.

2.) Lets say I'm grouped with a marksman. I'm standing closer to the passive nitch. Marksman shoots the nitch and the dumb thing runs right for me! grr...

Now taunt seems to work fine as a skill. Although, as the aggro stands right now, it's much easier for a marksman to make exp with a tamed creature tanking then a melee. Simply because of the greater chance for us to get hit.

So I'm just wondering a couple things:

1.) Is the aggro actions specific per creature/mob? meaning do all creatures do what I describe or just nitches.

2.) Anyone know if this aggro system was intentional? Or do you think they just messed up and need to refine it.

3.) Has anyone else noticed this or am I just looking crazy here? If you have, anyone found any tricks to deal with it? I used to love the detaunt in DAoC!

I have not noticed any real pattern, but I have not paid total attention to details while grouped fighting the same mobs. I solo mostly.

I have noticed sometimes it is who hit the mob first, keeps aggro, other times it is who is did the most dmg, then other times it seems who is closest to it.

I have been getting beat on by mobs, and slowly walk back so my brother is standing closer toe to toe with the mob and the mob switches to him.

Other times, they seem to stick to me no matter where I move or do.

Tuskan fort aggro is even more weird.

I've noticed several different scenarios when fighting Nitches in particular. The first scenario I am fighting with an Expert BH and he uses his pistolwhip ability to knock the nitch down, when the nitch gets back up, the nitch attacks him. He is also using his bleed abilities so they tend to stay aggroed on him while I just take chunks out of their hide standing right next to them.

The Second scenario, I am hunting with a Novice Pistoleer who ALSO has pistol whip but does not use Bleed attacks. When I fight with her, I have noticed that the minute I start attacking, I get aggroed.

Based on what I have seen, I would say whoever does the most damage the quickest or damages them consistently is who is going to get aggro'ed.

Just what I've observed.

As Fencers, we are way to pretty to tank, so I dont even have taunt on the macro bar...Assist is something different though.

I also posted something about this on another aggro related thread in this forum...

I've found its based almost entirely on proximity to a creature/npc. I've been hunting mercenaries on lok with my creatures lately, and if I stay 4-5 m away (basically as far as I can get while still being able to hit the merc), I never get hit.

I've also noticed that if I do pull aggro, and try to move away from the mob, they will stick on me until I burst run, at which point they will immediately turn on my creatures. It would seem like as soon as you move away at all, they should go after the creatures, but I think this is related to lag in the game. It may look like the npc is farther away from you than they actually are... As soon as you start to run, the mob follows you, and stays within 3 m of you regardless how far away it looks like it is (assuming, of course, that the mob runs at least as fast as you). Once you burst run, you pull away, and your creatures are again the closest thing to the mob, and it turns on them.

Granted, this is a simple sort of scenario, just me and 3 pets, but it seems to always work the same way.

I have a question about taunt, when u taunt something to try and pull it so u can take something on 1 on 1 rather than 1 on 10, does it work?

Everytime i taunt something it stay right were it is. It never comes to me, then i have to go over by it and i get attacked by everything else around it.

Is it supose to be like this?
