Thread: strategies against BIG mobs?

so i'm on a Lok trip with twenty of my friends, and it seems the only way i can contribute to the combat (read: actually be able to fight) is if i get underneat the stupid kimos. problem with that is, i take so much damage i either die or our healers die when they draw aggro for healing me.

i heard once to stay behind the pets so they draw aggro, but i wind up too far away to actually hit the blasted lizards.

someone please tell me fencers aren't stuck fighting small prey. because from what i've seen so far, that's how it looks.

I had/have the same problem. But now, everytime I fight, I keep a close eye on my distance from what I'm attacking. Some fencer moves attack the area around you, and you might get the attention of another enemy you had no intention of fighting. Pets usually attack within 1-3m of an opponent, therefore I don't stike unless I'm 3-5m away. Depending on what your using, vibroblade, ryyk sword, 3-5m is almost always a safe distance for any melee fighter that is using a pet to take the punishment. Closer and you run the risk of beingthe primary target. And I'vefound this to be a safe method. Oh but make sure that the pet is definitely attacking the target your fighting BEFORE you even click the attack button, if you are it's first target it may not switch to the pet and you become the focus of the whole mob. I hope that this helps.

i finally made it the 3000m back to my party, and we took on another kimo. this time, i followed all the advice i'd been given. i didn't use specials, i waited for the four pets to draw aggro, i hung back (13m), and i attacked.

i got three hits in, then i died.

at this point, i'm really starting to lose faith in fencing. call me a fair-weather fencer, i don't really care anymore. i chose fencing because i wanted to be different. to be unique. instead, i find myself a liability. sure, i do great against humanoids and can solo a red tusken or storm-trooper, but i can't even last five minutes in a big group hunt without biting it.

the fact that i'm only useful in a limited number of situations and completely useless in others (unless i shell out 40k for armor, get a lot of doctor buffs, and follow specific guidelines) just rubs me wrong. i became a fencer to be a unique type of fighter, not a special case.

i don't know. right now i'm just bummed, i guess. i wasn't able to participate in a single fight without either dying, getting my healers killed, or both. seeing as i don't really plan on ever going PvP or duelling much, it just doesn't seem like there's much of a future in fencing for me.

kimo's man dont hunt those.... unless u have full armor.... i remember when i tried to hunt those with a couple sharpshooter buddies..... the kimos had area attacks when the mobs aggro it and i snuck up from behind ( area attack doesnt hit u if ur behind it) i got like 10 wacks and died......... its just not worth it..... im trying to get full marine armor then going back to it..... until then my advice is dont even try it its a waste of time unless u want CH xp .... good CH xp

thing is, my guild is constantly going on Lok hunts. i feel so helpless, being forced to stay on tat and just hunt scyks while they're all off hunting kimos with no casualties because they all get to stay a nice, safe 60m away.

UPDATE:

thinking maybe it was just kimos, i threw down some cash and headed to endor. the mobs there are smaller, they don't have huge AOE debuffs, should be easier to handle, right?

wrong.

i encountered the same basic problem i had on lok. in order to get close enough to attack, i wound up close enough to get attacked. didn't matter that i didn't use my specials, or that the pet was dealing damage, i drew aggro. sure enough, it didn't take long to knock me out. i tried hiding behind the pet, but that usually put me out of attack range.

there seems to be a fundamental issue that i can't get across: i can't attack the mobs without going down like a drunk prom date. and the bigger the group, the bigger the mobs. and the bigger the hurt.

how do i get past this? solo, i do great. in a group, i get hurt constantly because i can't tank worth a lick.

what's the trick?

Well I think defense is being looked at across the board but really needs to be upped for the melee classes. They are worried about upping for all, so then make it an addition slowly gained in the Fencer tree once novice fencer is attained.

That way, if someone wants the benefit, they need to work for it and not everyonewill have it, plus have it get better after novice fencer.

I hate to say it, but I have just picked some range weapons to skill up in along with fencing for those fights.

Melees just are not made to combat some mobs in this game it seems.

is the leader of your group a master Squad Leader ?

If not i suggest finding one and grouping with them as the benifit they offer stat wise is extroadinary !!

My slave/bodyguard Yayo , is master TKA and master SL and we can do some amazing hunts just as a duo .

IMHO not every class will be suited to hunt every creature or or go on every hunt and be death free or sucessful.... then how is sucess measured ? Well to me , my success is based on my goal for the hunt . I base my enjoyment and set my hunt to meet my goals . I do not try to hunt things that are not in the plan of thiings , although,,, sometimes they hunt me ... LOL

anyway as in many of thease game u need the right group for theGOAL you decide to make

Just my 2 coppers )
