Thread: Fencer OR Swordsman?? Advice Needed! Please. what are benefits to both? (dmg speed skills)

After trying out some fencer and swordsman stuff, I'm leaning towards swordsman, personally. As far as the speed advantage goes, you can get a 2H Curved Sword that's 0.2 seconds slower, with 125 points more damage and only marginally higher HAM costs when compared to a 1H Curved Sword. Plus the 2H Sword has Medium Armor Piercing (1H has none), and with the 2H Swordsman you have the option of a different damage type (Blast with the Power Hammer) as compared to the seemingly endless array of Kinetic type 1H weapons. And to top it all off, the 2H special attacks look cooler, in my opinion.

Hi,


The charm of being a fencer is being able to juggle your opponents. You have to be really smart about what specials you use at what time. I think I am getting very good raw damage. I can kill 9-10K HAM opponents with in 10 hits. That's approximately 5 sec. It takes up to 10sec max with light armor.


Anything above light armor becomes a game of staying alive. Now with the patch, staying alive is much much easier. (I killed Medium Armor 40% mob ... took a long time.)


As for AT-ST Turrets and what not, I don't even bother. You swordsmen and commandoes can have all the fun.


It comes down to what do you want to do? For example, fencer definitely is not suited for laying a siege to a fortress. It isvery suitedfor meeting-people-in-the-back-alley thing. Do that with a commando and you will probably die (with heavy armor damage penalties etc). Then again, a fencer can't do anything against AT-ST. Few scratches at most. (75% with Heavy AP) For me getting personal with bipedal-species sounds so much better.


Fencers get stun damage from stun baton. It is known that you may be able to obtainone with mid-200 max damage, however, due to the low fencer populations, not much aggressive experimentations are done. S-Baton generally have ok-damage but bad HAM cost. So unfortunately, it is only very powerful at high level so that you can dish out damage at faster rate with normal attacks.

P.S. It is natural to think we probably need better AP. However, note pistoleers don't have much either. They par very well against carbins/rifles. I am fairly comfortable with current situation. (Our problem as it seem is HAM cost.)

Ican see some sense in the notion that fencers shouldn't have any weapons with AP 2 and up. What I don't get is why we only have ONE AP1 weapon and it's marginal at best.


One of the posters compared us to the pistoleer class and that's not without merit. What they have that we don't have isn't a massive damage AP 2 pistol... it's a variety of AP1 pistols and pistols with different damage types.


If we're truly the melee analogue of Pistoleers where's my AP1 Acid Sword?
