Thread: An honest interest in fencer, How would this work?

Hello,

In an effort to plan ahead of that day I can say goodbye to mastering classes and then ditching them, I've started to think ahead of where and what I want my main character to be, before I go off and hopefully play with acharacter who has a glowing stick.

I am a smuggler first and foremost, but after having so much fun with even going up the brawler line of 1h weapons, I started to give fencer more serious thought, and as I readseveral posts and came to the conclusion that this might be part of who and what,I want my character to become.

I found the styles to be alot of fun to watch, with a great deal of panache, which is a wonderful thing in my hope of a disciplined, yet fun-inspiring character.

My idea was to incorporate the skills and defenses of the following:

Master Smuggler
Master Fencer
Pistoleer 4/0/4/0
Medic 0/1/0/0 or something, extra points.

Now playing around, and adding the bonuses of some of the defenses accrued through Fencer and pistoleer through my proposed spec (I'm of the opinion dodge stacks, as do the defense mods untill such time as the Devs say differant.) I found myself most impressed.

Dodge 185
Melee Defense 74
Ranged Defense 69
D. vs Posture 70
D. vs Knockdown 100
D. vs Blind 80
D. vs Dizzy 80
D. vs Stun 40
D. vs Intimidate 20
Equilibrium 30

Now this puts in my mind, with the adv. of having COB, of a being who isextremely difficult to hit and kill. Perfect for the survivoraspect of my smugglers personality.

I don't worry about dmg output so much, though from what I've read, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Between the skills and tricks of the smugglers Dirty Fighting tree, panic shot (10 sec. ranged AOE cone delay), Lowblow (Ranged KD), Feign Death (Let the bleeds tick) and the various tools at my disposal through fencing and pistoleer, its my hope that this would be a veryfun spec to make my opponents in PvP very frustrated in how long it takes to kill me, not to mention look good while doing it.

With dmg mitigation going in, I see further potential... I'm a hopeful fellow I suppose.

If anyone has impressions they are willing to share, please do, I'd like to see the weaknesses in this idea, as well as any strengths you might see, or a manner of play-style that would work best to bring it about. I'm honestly enamored with the prospect of heading towards fencing, as I found the idea of going up the drudgery of TKA to be a very...dull... prospect, though powerful indeed.

As long as you don't care about being accurate or fast with the pistol that looks like a unique and fun set of skills.

go 1/0/0/0 medic you will heal more with stim b's and the way you have it will be useless unless your healing others all the time, which I doubt you are with just novice medic.

Thank you, that probably would be a better choice.

As for pistol accuracy/speed. I have several 0.8 speed blasters stocked up, I'm not hurting there. Great for spamming KD's and panic shots for crowd control, and I can even spam last ditch as it is. Accuracy, I've never had a problem with in my pvp experiences, I always try to work with the ideal range of my weapon, and that tends to be all I need. Even at novice pistoleer only I rarely miss more than I did when I was a 4/4/4/3 pistoleer.

Basically I'm hoping to have effective control over preventing someone from kiting me for the most part, then being able to close the range between us with sword in-hand and watch all the fun.

Went to dantooine today with a friend, worked on 1h some more and had a great time. He wasn't terribly impressed with my enthusiasm, but perhaps when I can make a full commitment things will change.

acuracy is going to become 10X more important now... with the dodge, counter, block and COB in the game its very very hard to hit melee char. accuracy is a must if you plan to use your pistol in pvp. i might consider droping medic and going with 4440 pistoleer instead

im curently lvl 3 marksmanship in pistoleer and i miss a master 2h 9/10 of the time if i have to run and 1/2 the time if i can prone at ideal range. this is using a gun with i think +25ish at ideal.

oh those values came from testing with my freind... obviously you would never be able to prone at ideal for real pvp

For me, the medic skill, while only novice, was far more important.

I use great stims to make up for my lack of medic skill boxes, and it saves me and my friends time and time again.

Besides, with most melee, I dont need to worry too much about accuracyas a pistoleer against themright? I need to worry the most about ranged character kiting, because my most effective means of doing damage would be as a fencer, not as a pistoleer.

If I were against a melee, I'd like to get some shots off, and hopefully stick a panic or low blow in, but if not, I have the abilities given by fencer to fall-back on...

With ranged, I need to stop them in their tracks, knock them down, something. THere are some hybrids that such a tactic wont work well against (Triple master for example) but on the majority I thought it might do rather well...

This is all to my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I had a very close idea to that. Here is my dream character

Master Fencer
Master Pistoleer
Smuggler 0-0-4-0
Medic 3-2-0-0

That gives me full advantage of pistol, just the cool tricks of dirty fighting, and better med skills.

Yah this would be a better spec than mine, but I can't give up master smuggler, too much history for me, and it was my first love, so to speak.

I am personally going for this template

Master TKA

Master Fence

Master Scout

Might drop scout and do pistoleer if I start doing a lot of PvP though. But from what i can tell, that gives me a whole lot of melee defense and the ability to dodge and couter very well with CoB.

Just throwing in my two cents.

Hello Caylin, it is nice to see one more personplanning to join the ranks of Blademaster on Bria.I made it 2months ago before the fantastic changes of the last big patch, andIwould not drop it for anything. I understand your connection to Smuggler, but in factit reallycompliments your character as a whole betterthenany other combination, because youenjoy Smuggler already.

You couldnt ask for more when all 3 of your main professions add bonuses to one another. Fencers gets bonuses fromPistols, Pistols and Smuggler go hand in hand, sounds like a good combo to me. And melee cannotlive without medic skills, plain and simple.

My personal plan is - Master Fencer

Master Pistoleer

Master Brawler

Medic 1/0/0/0

Im hoping lunge 2 and warcry 2 will improve my skills, we'll see.

Good luck to you, and please feel free to give me a tell for training and save your self some cash
