Thread: Swords and Clubs... ...SWG options. None? Some?

The weapons afforded the Fencer already resemble many RL one-handed weapons. For example:

  • Short knives (stone, survival, etc.) = No brainer. Many RL examples including the bayonet

  • Curved Sword = similar to the Katana and/or Wakizashi

  • Rykk = similar to the Cutlass, Saber, or Scimitar

  • Rantok = resemblesthe broad sword or longsword (though the game keeps these in short supply)

  • Vibro-blade = short sword with motorized recoil damage enhancement

  • Gaderiffi (Gaffi) Stick = the only weapon truly born from Star Wars lore.

  • Stun Baton = a fusion of billy club and taser

  • Light Saber =the most recognized SW one-handed weapon reserved for the few

Now if most familiar sword and club types are already similar to the existing SWG one-handed arsenal, then what is left? Well, there's the flambergé or kris/kriss which has a wavy (serpentine) blade. There's the epee/épée or the fencing foil which is more of a stabbing weapon rather than hack and slash. Variations of knives such as the stiletto or dirk. Maybe even a more exotic short weapon like the sai. Blunt or bludgeon could mean a spiked club, mace, or the ever popular baseball bat. What would be welcome in SWG?

I'm not sure I want to see any of the previous weapons (last paragraph) making an appearance in the game. Might help if the Rantok were made available through crafting. Maybe even give it a chance to cause unusually high bleeding (due to its numerous barbs along its blade). Maybe a spiked mace would be welcome. Not one that appears as they do in RL; rather, one that has a more futuristic design.

As we evolve into Master Fencer, we become more powerful. At master level, we are able to go up against some fairly massive and daunting opponents. Kind of hard to imagine I'm beating down a Rancor with a club or a short sword. I understand we can't have light sabers, but what about something that at least appears more foreboding. For example, maybe a Tesla sword that has a charged blade. It could do electrical damage. Maybe a fusion baton that does heat damage. I don't know.

It's hard to ask for new weapons at this stage of the game (pardon the pun). If we start getting new weapons, then every other class will want new weapons. Then again, maybe this isn't that bad of an idea since it breaths new life into existing professions. Still... ...not an easy task. Adding new weapons may be just a matter of creating new models for them. However, fusing them into the game and applying the dynamics of these new weapons into the existing combat dynamic is the real hurdle.

Other professions are already pleading for their unavailable (but existent) weapons such as the recently made available Republic Blaster or the still eagerly anticipated T-21. Maybe giving us the Rantok will be enough.

Would be nice to see other options though. I'm not ranting or complaining. Just thinking.

Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's centre. With the feeling that he was speaking to O'Brien, and also that he was setting forth an important axiom, he wrote: Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.
