Not sure why you're asking in this on the fencer forum? You're going for battlemaster (2-handed swordsman) and thinking about TKA meditation line (TKA). Seems to me you might want to look on those forums.

But to answer your question anyway. I find both the meditation line and medic to be very useful. If you can do both, then do both. If not, then If you find that you use heals a lot (some people don't), then medic is invaluable. If you don't use heals much, then the meditation line is awesome.

Fencer used to be Blademaster right?

{Edit} Just realized I wrote Battlemaster in the post. My apologies I'm looking at picking up fence. I know the defense on a Fencer is superb. I just want to know if medic skills are truly necessary, or if those with medic skills find themselves to be healing in the midst of battle often at all. {/edit}

My melee toon is more for PVE but i tried both and after haveing 2140 medic, the only thing meditation would be good for it curing disease in the field. For PVP in my experiance (used to pvp alot) you will often have a doc around anyhow to cure the disease and the meditatoin wouldnt help you with poison for in the fight anyhow

Still trying to figure out why you were using a T21 at point blank as your range modifiers would make you miss...ALOT. Next time start with a spraystick to land a dizzy, stun, then posture down. Later switch to your jawa and kite while praying they dont figure out that lunge1 has a 25m range.

Meditation= not having to worry about wether or not a doctor is on hand to buff you or doubling the power of your buffs.

Medic= being able to use expensive stimB's to heal yourself of incredible amounts of damage for ony being a novice level. *see my petition in the combat medic forums to have stimB's raised to pharmacology4.

Go for meditation, I would if I could.

I have a slight dilemma on my hands

Currently I am a Master Rifleman (since launch, so NOT FotM) / near-Master Commando / Pharmacology III. Both combat professions are great for PvE, but the Commando is nearly useless in small-scale PvP. Of course the Rocket Launchers were valuable when attacking a base or an ATST, and my extremely powerful FlameThrower rakes in alot of credits through Mokk missions, but, other than those two abilities, I rarely feel the need to use my commando skills.

A while back I encountered an old friend and challenged them to a duel. At ideal range with my krayt-enhanced T21 I missed 16 times in a row. I know he had some additional skillmods stacked on his armor, but I was still extremely impressed by the fencer profession. I've been toying with the idea of picking up fencer for a good month now. Once I've mastered Commando, I'll be dropping it to begin my journey toward the goal of Battlemaster. This I can use to cover against melee opponents at close range, or to tank for guildmates on hunts.

I now have two basic options for self-support. I can either pick up quite a few skills in medic, or I can drop those skills to buy into the Teras Kasi Meditation line, and perhaps the Combat Balance aspect as well. One gives me the ability to quickly recover while in combat (as well as heal myself while tanking), the other to effectively buff / heal myself before and after combat. What would you choose, and why?

Thanks in advance for any help you might provide!

Erm....point blank? I stated that I was firing at ideal range. There's a huge difference, I know I know how to fight'n'kite melee opponents. I generally only lose when they land the dizzy/kd before I do, or ifI'm fighting a decent combat profession + doc while unbuffed.

Why exactly would you use a spraystick over a laser rifle? It doesn't fire any faster at Master Sharpshooter. Laser is perfectly accurate at a good range as well.
