I'm debating swordsman vs. fencer.

It seems strange that the best elite weapons are hammers(?) for swordsmen.

Question - is it pretty much like a pistol vs rifle argument, as far as damage/specials/speed, or is it purely a style/fashion difference?

How do the top end fencer weapons compare to the top end swordsman weapons?

Top end swordsman weapons blow fencer weapons away I'm afraid. T

he Hammer thingy they get can top 400 damage even without a slice or powerup, and at master level it's every bit as fast as our vibro blade. Our "elite" weapon is a friggin cop's baton. It sucked until just recently when the advanced reinforcement core was put into the game. Now it's not a half bad weapon. It'll do 100+ - 130+ damage pre slice and that damage is applied as stun rather than kinetic. It's pretty cool against mobs with high kinetic resist and little or no stun. The mind HAM is insane though so you can't spam specials with it unless you're a spice fiend.

Hell even their "mid grade" weapons outclass the best stuff we get. The two handed curved sword has medium armor piercing, is fast as hell, does well over 200 damage pre-slice. Compare that with the One handed curved sword. It has no armor piercing, is negligably faster, will do 170ish damage tops pre-slice, and has HAM's that are practically identical to the two handed version.

In short, swordsman weapons own ours.

As for how they compare in terms of the ranged paradigm.. I believe it's intended to be more of a pistol vs. carbine scenario. But in truth it's more of a pistol vs. uber-flak-cannon-O-DOOM scenario. Get the picture?

One last thing. Don't let any of this discourage you if you really want to be a fencer. We may get the shaft in terms of weapons (only for now I pray) but we've got STYLE and our special moves look cool as, well cool. Plus you can't get away with wearing a leotard and a feathered hat in any other profession without people questioning your sexuality. And one last thing, swordsmen can't say touche' and be taken seriously! HA
