Thread: Melee and agro..
I'm not sure anyone's compiled a definitive list for agro. If someone has, I'd like to see it. ![]()
There do seem to be several things that will get you on the fast track to a free clone. Some of them I can think of are:
You're the closest to the mob, distance-wise.
You do way more damage than anyone else within a certain block of time.
Faction (for humanoid types)
Distance seems to be the biggest factor, but I do notice that many times, in the middle of a fight, I'll gain agro without anything changing range on me. What I seem to notice is that second best on the get-you-agro list is when people start missing or doing low-end damage for a bit, while you are stilldoing very good damage. Not sure if anyone else has seen something like this.

I think Legacy has it pretty much correct. This has been posted on a few times in other threads, but from my experience it's all about distance management #1. I have noticed - and maybe this is what Legacy was talking about -that if I'm REALLY pounding away, or when I land an intimidate and then really pound away I can see the beastie start to "turn" for me. What do I mean by "turning"? I typically try to line up a bit to the side of the current target, I know it doesn't matter as far as damage or anything, but the targets always seem to "face" whoever they are aggro'd on. So sometimes I can see them turning to face me, then my pet will land a blow and they turn back. Every now and then they will hover - facing towards me primarily, sort of bobbing back forth between me and my petbut not striking me- then BAM! I get popped, but immediately after they back off. It's touch and go though sometimes I have to break and run a bit and then I will lose aggro. But as I said, and as Legacy hinted at this seems as though it's a result of overly "aggressive" action on my part - either landing some big hits one after another, or combining intimidate with some big hits. I dunno why but intimidate really seems to get their attention to make them "turn" towards me.
Anyway, not scientific, but the experiences I have heard from many others seem in line with these observations.

Greetings,
The key appears to be distance, closest person tends to get the agro.
If a mob is inc and a commando starts blasting early they will pull agro but not for long if you get close enough.
Enjoy!
the best advice I can say is that to stand behind a pet, but close enough to hit.
my guildie awik had given me that advice when I was always getting beat down, and it works if you can stay 'inside' the pet or 'behind' a pet. It will target the pet and you are free to hit all you want. But if you get within range it will usually (if not always) turn to hit you. But 4m isn't the worst right now, I believe TKA's have to be withint 3m and get hit quite a bit. I also think that TKA"s are getting a distance increase to 5m, perhaps we should look into that too?
you know what I think they need to do...go the everquest way...make it so that if something does 5k damage, and something else is doing 5 damage, just cause the thing doing 5 damage is closer doesn't mean he should be attacked...It makes me SOOO #$!@ mad when someone sends in a pet, the ranged automatically start attacking for about 10k damage (the commando's and BH's sometimes) and they don't get aggro, and the pet is doing like 200 damage max. And then of course, even if us fencers wait a minute before we start attacking, we still get KILLED just because we made the mistake of getting too close...it pisses me of SOOOO BAD!!
And it's REAlLY REALLY REALLY annoying when fighitng mobs that move around, and mobs that can one hit KO you (for example, KRAYT DRAGONS)...you feel SO WORTHLESS, the guildleader in my guild told me just to stop even TRYING to attack because I was dying so much (the krayt dragon moves around a bunch whenever anything is attacking it). It was a total night wasted...anyway just my 2 cents ![]()
