Thread: Tell me why I suck, I know you want to. :P
I'm a fencer, and I rock.
I only have 0/0/1/0 in Novice Fencing, but I can take down critters with 5k ham !!!!
I only ever use two moves... intimidate, and health shot 2...
I know you guys like to compare ourselves to other meleersand be like "hey, they've got neater junk than we do", but I personally havent even *dabbled* in other areas, and I wouldnt want to, either. Fencing's too much fun ![]()
Oh, about range... our range is 5 meters max. 5 fricking meters! That means I can hit people with my sword from like 15 feet away! If that isnt absurd, I dont know what is! ![]()
I personally dont give a hoot about our distances. even if I could attack from 8 meters away, that critter I'm fighting would realize I'm there and charge at me, bringing the range down to 1 to 4 meters. The only complaint I have about ranges is that I can intimidate from 10 meters, and then I have to run in 5 meters to attack. But thats a minor complaint, intimidate makes up for the range issue completely ![]()
Now, if you think that we should be able to solo anything higher than 5 or 6k ham all by ourselves, you obviously missed the point of stuff *being* that healthy, its supposed to be taken down by teams ![]()
Also, I couldnt solo 3k ham people as a rifleman, if they saw me at all, I was dead. I had 3 shots before they saw me... and with anything less than a T21 and headshot3, the max youcan solo without a pet is a 2 to 3k hammmer...as a rifleman... now, I got novice fencer, and I was soloing 4k ham creatures at Novice Fencer Level, and 5k Ham creatures once I got health shot 2. I dont understand why you guys gripe, I feel *powerful* as a novice fencer ![]()
Oh, and power wise, if I'm in a group, I do more damage than anyone else except for commandos and BHs, I dont feel 'weak' or feel I have any need to gripe ![]()
I do agree the weapons suck though. My fencer, Odeeso Arnsu, on the Shadowfire server has the second most powerful sword I've seen on that server. It maxes out at 201 base damage, the first most powerful sword maxed out at 205 damage and the reason I didnt buy that one was because I bought the 201 dmg sword the second I saw it

)And the thing about that sword is it's the sword for the second level skill in the one handed branch in brawler, that doesnt make any sense! The best one handed weapons I've seen that are higher up in the tree max out at 169 dmg for Rykk blades. Oh, and stun batons, while not actually swords, are still nice. Most higher level creatures are highly resistant to kinetic damage (all swords) but usually have little to no resistances to stun damage. I read a post saying the stun baton was useful in 10% of situations. I suppose thats true if you dont play to your level or group at all. I've found that, latelly, Ive been using the stun baton around 60-80% of the time because everything I fight is so resistant to kinetic damage.
But then... all this really means that our weapons *look* weak... but they arent really. Our speed is incredible combined with our damage. We can do 1 to 2k damage every 2 to 4 seconds if we play our cards right, None of the ranged classes (excepting commandos) come close to matching that.
Oh, and if people think that we should compare ourselves to commandos, they are missing yet another point. Commandos need a *lot* more skills before they can becomecommandos. We need a mere four to get to novice fencer. It makes sense that they should be more powerful than everyone else.

Hey, I am also a fencer (by the name of Mogan) on the Shadowfire server. I am currently 2-4-2-2 in the tree, and I honestly have no idea where you came up with your figures man. They are flat out absurd. I agree that comparing a brawler of any sort to a commando / bh / marksmanis ridiculous, but I think that it's fair to make comparisons between brawlers. On that note, we suck. Not because of the cooler abilities (howis it that aHEAVY swordsman has the precision to attack the head and aFENCER can only strike the body? way to be realistic, silly devs) but because of overall ability.
In order to maximize my one-handed skill, I went for master brawler. Doing so made me realize how weak the devs have decided to make fencers. Sure we're fast, but when I was doing the Dantooine missions worth around 2.9k, I was having a MUCH easier time with a heavy sword, in which case I only had up to 3 (in the brawler tree) The damage that a heavy sword does is a much higher increase than the speed a fencer has, try it some time. It'll make you cry.
Then there is the infamous TKA, the brawler that everyone loves being (I've counted like 300 on our server) I just got novice tka (just for the pride of meditating instead of sitting to heal mind, even though there is no difference at such a low level) and again I am upset with the fencing class. Doing the level 23 missions alloted to my current fencing level is again MUCH easier using this alternate class that I'm only a novice for. I use the same abilities as you, purely intimidate2 (sooooo wicked) and health bleed2, but novice tka still does the job faster, and with taking less damage.
The only other brawler that is comparable to the fencer is the pikeman (another class that needs a SERIOUS beefing)their damage output per second is roughly the same, but only because polearms make people blind. However when it comes to nest time, a pikeman will make short work if it probably as fast as a tka would (a feat that is only dreamed of by fencers).
So my fellow fencer, the reason you don't know how much fencers suck is because you haven't tried the other brawling classes, even temporarily, and trust me the speed we have (which is still significantly slower, with less damage, than a tka) isn't something to be banking on, man. trust me.
Oh, btw, my avatar is of the same name ( Mogan ) on the server, please give me an email or a /tell as to who is the crafter of your pimpin sword. That is some awesome min damage mod. And yes, people who discredit the stun baton are ignorant. The stun baton is the best feature that fencers have. It often works better than a vibroblade for armored creatures.

To the devs: Please include a +damage mod in the tree to the remaining brawling classes. it's a little unfair that tka's get to monitor their damage progress and we're stuck here guessing. Im not asking that it be as high as it is for a tka, but that it at least be visible. thank you.
What I do ( I'm 3/4/0/2)
Get composite armor
Make your mind stats very nice compared to all others
Down a tatooine sunburn
Eat a ryshcate
Spam hit2
And voila, that monster with 8k life and ar1, Is down in under 25 seconds

Uhhhh, sorry to break it to you, but...0/0/1/0 does not allow you to use health shot 2. Health shot 2 is attained at Novice Pistoleer. That one skill box you have in Fencer allows you to use body hit 2. So, you're either full of crap about not dabbling, or your just confused on which attack is which...Which is it? And what kind of magical weapon do you have that has a max damage of 201? The best I've seen is my gaffi stick which is 90-181. You're confusing me a bit, here...are you even sure you're a fencer? Maybe you're a heavy swordsman? Also, we DO suck...PvP is pointless because I get kited to death, and even with body hit 2 I can't seem to exceed 100 damage to a person in PvP using my gaffi. Where do you get the crazy idea that Fencers aren't all broken and stuff?! We don't dodge when we should, we don't parry, and our speed isn't really as glorious as it should be! And the heavy swordsman are HEAVY swordsman and are able to do more damage than us (which makes sense), but are just as fast! And their HAM costs are slightly better, as I've seen it! What's the deal with that?!
I'm also a fencer on Shadowfire (0-3-1-1 so close to 0-4-1-1 :-] ).
The difference between swordsman and fencer was shown to me today on Lok. I was doinga lvl 50 mission against some pirates and I managed to pull one on there own. Use Imtimidate 2 and then bleed and then blind same as always and then I usally try to avoid using specials becuase we're quite fast and I want to save mind in case I need to heal.
Everything seemed fine until I noticed the numbers floating above the pirates head, they were all less than a hundred. The pirate had medium armour and my gaffi doesnt have AP.
I switched to my cleaver and managed to bring it down.
The point Im trying to make is that against mobs with no armour we can be very effective but we are in my opinion severly limited against creatures with Medium or better armour.
Hopefully some new weapons can rectify this otherwise I think we need to have some Swordsman/Pikeman just in case. BTW I did try stun baton but my cleaver was doing more damage.
Another Shadowfire Fencer here. Just barely got Novice though. I have a curved sword that's damage sliced for 88-187. With a power-up it breaks 200 even with a fairly weak power-up. I've been hitting with One handed hit 2 for up into the 1200-1300 damage range with low hits for over 600 easily. I don't see what's so weak about that
I use a cowardly gurreck to tank and I've been taking down mountain worrts and such with ease (I haven't moved off Tatooine much) I mostly hang out around Anchorhead or Mos Eisley at the moment building up my medic skills (I plan on going Master Doctor too), though I plan on moving to some of the higher level planets soon. If you doubt my numbers feel free to send me a tell in game and we can go out and kill some stuff.

Regarding the issue over Range: Ever try to duel somebody? Ever try to duel a Pistoleer or Commando? LOL!
You see, the issue is that even as we approach the inevitably kiting enemy with a burst run, as our Distance to the Enemy would appear to be in range, it is in fact not. We continue to receive the "Enemy is not in range" message, clearly an issue of client-server communication. This is why we brawlers will be getting a range increase: to hopefully make up for the difference in communication between client-server and eliminate the problem.
