Currently I am about to finish pistoleer and want to add melee. Don't know much about either and just want opinions. I want to be able to compete in PvP getting owned all the time stinks!

If you are heavy into PvP then take Fencer. If you are heavy into PvE then Swordsman is the way to go.

I'm not sure how the two stack against eachother in PvE (Never gotten any higher than Two-Handed IV in heavy swords), but in PvP, a (pure) Blademaster will beat a (pure) Master Swordsman 99.9% of the time unless either a) the fencer is a moron or b) the blademaster has an uber dot sword.

I've never lost to a (pure) Swordsman, and I'm not all that good. :-p

when my friend was a novice heavy swordsman i used to whoop him as a novice fencer, now he can beat me but i can still hold my own (i win a lot) we'll see when we're both master (he's a CH on the side and im a doctor on the side so we're both pure melee classes)

I bitterly regret to have to say this but I was once Master Fencer/Pistols and now I'm near Master Swordsman/Carbines.

F/P, I thought was superb. Almost unhittable when spamming the CoB - both PvE and PVP. But...

Now I am S/C, I find that I have the same kind of defensive invulnerability BUT I dish out double the damage to both PVE and PVP opponents. I have reengineered myself with Sword Speed tapes which does add to the advantage. The knockdown and dizzy shots of the carbine are very useful - as are the mind hits and the mind bleeds of swordsman. Plus, swordsman has a major Blast weapon to which many or indeed most PVE opponents are vulnerable. While Fencer has a Stun weapon - good against PVP opponents - the Swordsman's ability to aim damage at the Mind bar compensates for this, I find.
