Thread: What ever happened to playing the game for what it's worth?

With the age of the hologrinder dying out, maybe half the threads on the professions pages will disappear. I'm a novice fencer on my own free will and having a blast with it. Upon looking at some other professions in an effort to augment my capabilities as a fencer, I see dozens of "how do I get fast XP?" threads. It's kind of sad to see that. While it's interesting to read about how someone mastered (fill in the blank) from start to finish in 23 minutes, doesn't it take away some of the splendor the game has to offerby trying to get it over with quickly? For me it would. I could care less if it takes me the rest of the year to getBlademaster or if I did it tomorrow. If I finished it tomorrow, though, I would have missed out on a lot of the things I could tackle along the way. It would get boring then. Probably just another reason so many people are leaving. They want to be an uber super evil kill babies whatever overnight and when it doesn't happen, sayanara. Oh well, to each his own. I'll just continue to enjoy the game at my own pace. It's more fun that way.

Am I the only person who does this orhas the overall greed in the race to become a Jedi just consumed everyone to the point where the overall point of the game is lost?

The overall point of the game was lost by the poor implementation of the GCW. Lets be honest, the point people bought this game originally, was to play a role in a massive WAR! The epic civil war, prior to launch I invisioned being one of maybe 100 people on a huge battelfield where the battle would involve NPCs, and be predetermined how the conflict would play out, where you were given goals for your side like protecting an area for a specific amount of time. Where the outcome of each individual mission goal would determine the overall rewards for your faction. Death used to mean something, now it is nothing. So, with very little content other than the few guild wars that currently are in effect, the grind to jedi is the only longterm goal. Jedi is nice to get (I got one) but once you unlock you have the same situation, lack of epic content that builds communities. So yes it is sad the way everyone is mastering and dropping professions to get a jedi, but the problem never was hologrinding, the underlying probelm is lack of epic content that intrigues someone to play a profession for the sake of partaking in the epic story (which currently does not exist).

In response to Tlk, I began playing the game the weekend of Thanksgiving, right before the holocran craze began full force (no pun intended), so that is the game that I know. The game I have grown to love in my own unique way has shown me a group of lemmings all chasing that coveted FSCS, which was the original thought behind my first post. I too had similar visions of the epicness and grand scale the GCW had to offer on paper in in concept, and when it didn't fulfill those visions it allowed me to venture down different paths to tailor the game to be what I wanted it to be for me. The game was designed to offer a unique experience for every person who plays it.

Jedi are overrated...LOL

can a jedi stop a death star beam? can a jedi reverse a supernova? i think not.

anyway, i'm no hologrinder or pvp'er. i did fencer for fun, and am loving it still.

I agree the game does offer enormous potential, but from my experiences, there is an enormous lack of imagination/resources to create the epicness ourselves from a player base. There are many instances of truely unique experierences I have shared with others, but itmust be apparent that the community has been able to master these professions much faster than teh developers expected. If you have killed every type of mob in the game, performed all the theme parks, and climbed rank in a faction. There really is not much left other than community interaction or strive for a jedi. The biggest thing missing from SWG is the actual Civil War. Holos did hurt the game, I am not denying it, but the holos came at a time when the uniqueness of the game was failing. I really wish everyone that plays now had experienced the first month of this game, it really was an incredible experience. I only can hope that after the GCW revamp, then once again, people will pick up a profession to play a role in the GCW and the communities can once again rebuild (I always thought being an artisan and commando would be cool, building turrets and such on a battlefield). I completely understand the Jedi craze, I completely understand people grinding fast to get the jedi slot open (and trust me when you do it, itis an enormous feeling of accomplishment), but I can honestly say the game does not hold the same aweness it once had prior to all this holocraze.

If you are on Naritus, feel free to give mea tell (T'lk), I play often, always looking for some new experiences. I am a master Fencer/Pistoleer with Smuggler 0/0/3/0. I have experienced every profession (did not master any I did not care for). I am an imperial and I await the day the battlefields reopen.

I realize that my posts may seem negative, my intent is not to belittle anyones opinions or experiences. Simply to relate my personal views on the subject of hologrinding and the general state of the game, which I still find entertaining, just not as original and not up to the expectations I originally hoped for.

I value the opinions of everyone who posts a reply to this thread, Tlk, and I thank you for your inputs. I like finding out what makes people tick in this game and why they play it. Everyone's got their own specific goals of what they would like to accomplish in-game. Myself, I run two accounts. My first player is a politician/tailor/merchant. Hardly what you would call the combat type. Playing that character allows me to relax, interact a bit more with the community, make a little money along the way. My second char is my novice fencer/scout/working up to CH. This allows me to let off steam and there's no better feeling after a bad workday then walking up to a big old furry bantha and clubbing it like a baby seal (no offense to all the baby seal lovers out there) and that kind of flexibility is what keeps my attitude towards the game fresh week after week and month after month.

Every Profession I've chose is out of free will, not what some dumb Holo said. I chose these Profession becasue I wanted them to compete.

I totally agree... The only thing that keeps me around now is the community. I'm currently doing TKM/Fencer/swordsman/master brawler to be an ultimatemeleer for fun. I dont want to be a jedi, well i do but dont want to do holos. By doing this i can practically be just as strong as a jedi with no super force powers. This game was fun, but it just got--- Old.

Taking over the world one thread at a time.

Well, I've been looking for a thread that I would love to have been my 100th post and this seems like the best one to do it in. I play this game because I, like many others, liked the movies. I've met a lot of nice people in this game. I have yet to come across anyone in game that was mean to anyone. I respect everyone that plays for fun, being grinding to the next profession, or just sitting around chatting in the city hall. I have a friend in game that actually likes grinding to get jedi. He purchased another account to grind through after he got his first account to jedi. As for me, I do what I want to in this game. I do not grind professions, I don't go after uber loot and harvest them, I play this game as I feel it was meant to be played(IMHO). Be it as it may, everyone has their own interpritation of how this game was meant to be played.

p.s. didn't change anything, just wanted to try-out my new editiing feature...

Ahh yes. I play this game for the fun of PVE'ing. Not wanting to be a Jedi Now or Ever. But what I see ruining the game is the exploiting/macros. I mean you got people looting before you get a chance cause they got what I say is a "Cheat". I like to go down Caves and destroy or get destroyed and earn what I loot. Not by going afk with a macro running and killing things and taking all the loot and selling it for millions. Thats why people are leaving. They come in to play the game and have fun and to loot unusual items cause they earned it. But get tired of going to caves by AFK'ers. I know they didnt intend for the game to be like that. I mean you have to be on right when the server resets to almost have any chance of getting some loot. And still there are people that probably have their alarms set. Wake up Log back on and go afk and go back to sleep only to wake up and find their inventory full of Skill Tapes or anything else of importance. I just wish they would take the whole Macro out of the Game expect for certain things and call it at that and play the game the way it was meant to be. And if this hurts some peoples feelings which I know I will get negative responses back to this. Then you are probably a guilty one of doing it and just wont admit it.

i've yet to open a holocron. i've given up more professions than I've mastered. I could hava mastered fencer a month ago, but to me, that might take some of the fun out of it. i feel like I'm a 6th year senior afraid to go into the real world - so i'm taking some more classes on TK and HS before I graduate.
