Thread: It's better to regret something you've done than something you haven't done

I've seen the truth of the above statement borne out many times in life let alone a video game based on a fantasy world far far away. Last night I ended up regretting not taking a course of action that on paper would have been foolhardy in the extreme.

I shall explain.

Two guildmates and I decided to go and grind some Imperial faction, as someone had conveniently placed a few Rebel bases not far from our town. So my Master Carbineer and Novice Bounty Hunter friends did what they do when going to fight a horde of NPCs: they buffed and strapped on their composite. And I did what Fencers do when going to fight a horde of NPCs: I declared overt and changed into my Imperial officer's uniform.

We fought for a bit and had killed a few bad guys when a buffed and armour overt showed up on the radar with his pet. I used taunt to draw the pet and NPCs towards me while my friends worked on the player. Soon he was dead.

That's when the jedi showed up.

Now I don't care what any l33t kids say about chickening out, if it's between getting killed and running away, I'll take running away. This was a shoot 'n' scoot mission and I called "tactical withdrawal." We split up and burst ran away in different directions. The jedi decided to go after me. Was it because I was the only one not buffed? Was it because he saw my tag and thought I'd come to blow up his base? Was it just because I was the closest? Don't know. What matters is I was hotfooting it out of there and he was using sabre throw to try and knock me down. And indeed he succeeded. Twice.

It took him a while to break my meagre defences but eventually he did and I died. The split worked though. My friends got away. The base was close enough to our town for a doctor to show up and rez me. We all ended up with a faction point increase and a bit of excitement out of the deal so overall it was fun.

But it's been bothering me all day. The jedi must have been fairly low level to take so long to kill me. If I assume I'm for the chop anyway, what would have happened if I'd turned round and stood my ground? Grab some food, land some states, who knows? Run away or face certain death? Unbuffed Fencer versus jedi? It should be a no-brainer but I'm really regretting not giving it a shot.

Do not give in to your anger. I always stand and fight no matter the circumstances... buffed/unbuffed/armored/unarmored. If you have a group working well together it's always better to try and fail valiantly than to not try at all.

intim and warcry, specifically warcry, are jedi killers. You stick a war on a jedi you'll see him run faster than... uhm well someone that runs fast O_o

Also you are likely to have faired better than the armored companions. I have noticed unarmored is MUCH better vs jedi than armored.

but don't worry, you can always fight jedi another day. You did what you felt was needed at the time, and for that there is no shame.

Don't second guess when you did what you felt was appropriate at the moment. Sounds like you put up a decent fight, anyway, against the jedi. However, if the situation is happened upon again, you now have past experience to guide your actions. Not necessarily "It's better to regret something you've done than something you haven't done," but more "History has taught me..."
