As a Novice Fencer, I usually hit NPCs for about 200 - 300 damage without specials using my trusty Rantok stolen from Jabba.
Other fencers have almosted ended up at the cloning station from laughing so hard at my stubby Rantok while they brandish their Ryyk blades, but even though the Rantok is a bit slower and dosen't do as much damage as the Ryyk, the +10 to hit modifier at all ranges and the lower special costs make it my 1HS weapon of choice.
After SOE removed our ability to effectively change the posture of our foe, my buddy Arcturus, a very good Rifleman, and I hooked up for some Rebel missions. when we got near our target, he would go prone and target the toughest NPC. I'd wait until the NPC went prone and engaged him before running in and joining the battle.
This is what ensued:
/onehandhit2 for 2500+
/onehandhit2 for 3000+
That's right! I landed back to back blows for almost 6000 damage with a lowly Rantok!
Maybe we Fencers aren't the best (most probably the worst) soloers in the game, but evedentily we can still be very useful in any group.

You know what? You can do the rifleman/fencer thing all by yourself. I am a master sniper and intermediate fencer and believe me when they finally figure out where i am sniping from and charge(or run away as a lot are doing now) when they get to the fencer part of my offense/defense they are not very happy.

I am working on Novice Fencer right now and at the same time working on Novice Rifleman. They go very well together. You can attack them from a distance and then when they come running up to you, whip out your sword and dice and slice. Or as was stated earlier, if you take and run up and start slice'n and dice'n and they run from you, whip out your spraygun and fire away. I have also been working on Medic and that seems to fit in also. Then you can heal yourself after battle. I can't wait to be Novice Fencer. Then I can call myself a fencer. It is alot of fun.
