Thread: Melee in Star Wars is predominent way of fighting..
Well, that only works as justification if they actually put in decent personal shields that get used a lot and make them very effective against ranged weapons. But in that case, balance will be against ranged people instead of against melees.
Interesting read though.

lol Yes Fracture... please post this in the Devs forums... I don't know how many times I've heard ranged claim there's no place for melee, go back to EQ.... blah blah blah.
You could entitle it something like "For those who say melee has no place in the starwars universe"....
Seena who is glaringly ignorant of Star Wars history........
Fraxture,
Where can I get some confirmation on this info.. It has started a small debate with someone.. I would like to point them to something other than here in a forum. Can you help?
Star Ships (Limitations)
Finally, there are three things to take note of when addressing deflector shields First, shields are only effective against the foe they were made to combat, that being blaster cannons. Shields are not as effective against asteroids for example as they are against their natural enemy.
and..
Damage comes in all shapes and sizes, but in the volatile world of Star Wars, the damage most citizens are worried about is the damage that comes from the dangerous end of a blaster cannon. Because not everyone is worried about Jabba the Hutt coming after them on a daily basis,
and finally...
Effective melee weapons in Star Wars are few and far between. The main form of a hand-to-hand combat weapons are vibroblades. These are generic weapons that come in many different shapes and sizes that use microscopic vibrations along the edge of a blade to enhance the lethality of the weapon. The technology behind the vibroblade is pretty simple when explained properly, which I will attempt to do now. Somewhere on the weapon, there is a compact ultrasonic generator. This motor vibrates the blade's edge at such a high rate that the motion is both inaudible and invisible at first glance and even the smallest exertion of force while using the weapon can cause tremendous amounts of damage to the victim. Vibroblades are about as common as blasters are, as they are also easily concealable and are extremely lethal in the hands of even an unskilled user.
As mentioned before, vibroblades are used in conjunction with many different types of older weapons, such as axes and spears, to make these weapons effective in a world mostly dominated by laser bolts and long-range weapons. Vibro-axes, for instance, are axes that use vibroblade technology to enhance their potential for damage. Force pikes are also older weapons (pikes, used by pike men) made new by the technology behind vibroblades.
Lighsabers, although extremely effective in the hands of a force-trained user, are extremely dangerous and mostly useless to an untrained individual. This makes them the most effective melee weapon in the universe as well as the least effective, at the same time.
