Thread: A must have FENCER move!!!
I've read a lot of pistoleer discussions about their existing ability, disarming shot. The Devs have said they are very reluctant to allow people to force other people to unequip or drop weapons. Currently disarming shot just damages a weapon, but pistoleers complain this is only useful for griefing (and not very useful at that either). I believe they are correct.
A suggested alternative for the pistoleer disarming shot is to add an intimdate effect to the shot. That sounds reasonable, and I think it would be a good option for a Fencer disarm. An effect that does some damage to the opponent, while at the same time applying a state effect (disarmed, or whatever) during which the opponent has greatly reduced chance to hit and/orreduced damage.

Either would be a great asset to our list of moves.

"a "disarm" move could also cause a 5 second or so delay to their next round of attack, simulating them having to find their weapon again"
And in that five seconds, the attacker continues to spam his or her Disarm attack, extending the timer by 5 seconds per hit. You realize that's why they nerfed Knockdown, right?
They've already said somewhere that the idea of disarm shot doesn't work, and that they plan to change it. I really don't think they'll put in any more disarm moves, simply because people can hotkey weapons, making a disarm almost meaningless. And no one wants a move that can potentially damage their costly weapons.
Personally, I'd rather not have a disarm move. Why? They'd probably have to implement it one of two ways. A) It knocks the weapon out of the target's hand, seemingly good. But madealmost worthless by the fact that you can hotkey weapons, and the fact that Teras Kasi don't need a weapon to hit you. B) It knocks the weapon out of your hand, and initiates a 'stun', if you will, not allowing you to attack for 5 seconds or so. The hit itself will either do damage or, most likely,do almost no damage, like lunge, since it is a powerful move. And with the current speed of weaponry in the game, they'd have to put it on a 30 second timer like posture changes and knockdowns; otherwise, you'd get fencers just spamming it with some melee or body hits in between.
I realize that the target can run away from you, thus cancelling out your ability to spam the attack for an insta-win. However, if they're running away from you, you probably couldn't/didn't land a disarm in the first place. And speaking for PvE, the majority of the things you fight are creatures, and they don't really have anything to disarm.
I'd rather see a worthy new move for PvE, that has the bonus of being useful to us in PvP. We have Dizzy, which drastically lowers balance, combat balance, equilibrium, or whatever.. Blind lowers to-hit and damage dealt. I'd rather see something that continues along these lines. Something like a snare, that lowers movement rate. Or a back-hit, or side-hit, that could lower roundtimes, must like a warcry. Moves that give us defensive bonuses that set us apart from the "knock it out of your hand, knock you down, knock you on your back, I win" feel of other classes that, sadly, rely on such things.

I'm been thinking about this from the pistoleer side, and a de-equipping the weapon doesn't seem that bad to me:
- You make is so that the weaon is de-equipped and all attacks in combat queue are cleared.
- The target becomes a truly unarmed brawler
- If they want to get back in action, they have to realize they've been disarmed, then reequip the gun, then re-order any specials they were going to do. In the meantime, they're already made an unarmed brawler attack, slowing them down significantly.
- If a target isn't carrying a weapon (say, it's been disarmed), then a disarm attack does nothing.
A little rough, and there probably would be a need for a short immunity time, but it doesn't seem that bad to me. It would probalby also be a good idea to have a disarm attack be HARDER to make hit, unlike most specials which have an accuracy bonus.
A must have fencer move? A stab! Or a lunge that works... Any of you actually see real life fencing?
I cant wait til we have .5 speed, that will be rad with like a 3.0 ryyk of 250 dmg >=0
