Well met one and all.

(I am a casual player 1-2 hours a day and have been in game for 3 weeks).

I am 20k or so exp away from Novice Fencer and i was wondering what other profession is best suited to compliment my Melee skills. I wear no armour ATM and use a Ryyk Blade 71-226/2.5.

I already decided that Scout was a must and i'm 4/4/4/3. So what next? Ranger? Ranged? Medic? i havn't really looked into any of the other professions all that much.

Interested to hearing your thought's, thankyou for reading.

There is another recent thread on this. The short answer is creature handler. There is no doubt in my mind that having a creature handler in the same group makes a fencer far more likely to survive. Fencers cannot tank (melee cannot generally but with broken defensive modifiers fencers are in a class by themselves). So better to have your own. Since you have pursued scout already, it also dovetails with your existing plan. Look for the post that talks about the only winnig strategy for fencers below. There is a much better discussion.

Medic would be another option for you, every group loves a medic.

You'll find that you wont even really have to work at being a medic. By virtue of being a Fencer-You will master Medic in no time. If you hate depending on others to heal you as I do, then going part-time medic is the road to take.

Besides a Cupa (Non-CH pet) can sufficiently tank for you at the Novice level anyway. Heck, my Cupa sufficiently diverts attention from me now and i'm 4-4-2-3 .

I'd say Master Medic and get Exploration 4 of scout, at least...I've been a CH as long as I can remember and have been a Fencer once before for a few days, and I picked it up again just yesterday, so I'm not too sure if it's really necessary to get CH, especially now with all these stupid Creature Level rules..Unless you want to master CH, it's not really worth getting...But really, mastering CH isn't worth getting anyways..They really need to fix that, too, but that's a different subject Anyways, I've seen many a doctor, medic, and combat medic do quite well in PvP and PvE while beingpart melee (not necessarily Fencer). But really, you have to at least master Medic in order for that to be worth it...the higher level stimpacks are awesome. I'm just sad I don't have enough skill points to master Medic in addition to Fencer and CH Oh well...Someday, when they give us more skill points, I suppose...

Thankyou all for your suggestions, i made Novice Fencer last night

My Ryyk blade stats above are wrong (Doh) they are actually 92-226 2.6.

I have a pet already, Korvnok Beetle 2200 Ham, little bugger tanks for me pretty well. I'm not sure about the CH tree but i will certainly look at the Medic side of things

Salutes to all the Fencer's out there, you have my respect.

Don't go for what is currently the best, go for what you think will be FUN! and be open to change. I started out to be a creature hunter but now i'm into hunting humanoids. Scout is good and so is medic, I have been working on pistoleer sence they both do health/body damage. I likely only get novice pistoleer to get health shoot 2, I may also try to get body shot 3.

On a side note you have leveled fairly good for 3 weeks, my tip to you is to stop power leveling and just play the game, lower levels are just as much fun and there is no reason to rush past them.

Good luck

Having come to fencer by way of master dancer, novice tailor, scout (still have exploration III) , novice medic (still have organic chemistry II), novice bioengineer and the pistol marksman line, I would just counsel you to talk with others (or post in the forums) to learn whether the downside of the professions you choose are ones you can live with. As much fun as the good points can be, that is not what wears you out on a profession. I mentioned CH because soloing as a fencer for me is all about surviving adds. With no mind healing, medic helps but has its limitations.

One great thing about fencer is that you really have to think about and vary your weapons and specials. It really does require some thought and experimentation.
