First, I've been a fencer (novice) since before the whole Holocron thing forced players who only wanted to fight with blasters into picking up bladed weapons. I don't mind that since they are grinding their way through in hopes of a FSCS, so now i can find people to train from and no longer have to pay NPC's for eash skill.

That aside, saying I would not want a FSCS is a lie, i think everyone can admit that, but I am not playing the game just for that. I think playing as a fencer is giving me the closest experience to playing as a Jedi as it can get. Usinga singlespin attack aginst a group of meatlumps and watching them all fall down at once is a pretty empowering gift.

In general fencers seem to fight with very little armor and can solo the same things that master pistoleers attack wearing enough Imperial armor to look like a white Ford SUV. (sorry i'm a rebel and look for any chance to knock imperials, gotta love /puke on their recruiters...)

So to all those mastering fencer just for the sake of opening up the next holocron message, slow downand try being a fencer and play the game as a fencer, you may find that being a Jedi is more in your head than in the profession title itself. Jedi is a state of mind and for the 0.1% who get FSCS, I applaud your efforts to achieve your goal. For the rest of us playing for the love of the game, become a fencer and experience the thrill of melee combat.

is it wrong to hope they pass through and never look back? i like being rare, and i fully realize the childishness of that. in my defense, i do help any fencer i come across in any way possible with training, tips, and free swords (the speed slices i get, since they'll do me no good).

i'm glad we're not strong unless strategy makes us so. i don't want to play a profession where one move makes us great, or our weapons do all the work for us. i also firmly believe that a bounty hunter and commando should beat us 100% of the time, unless they mess up and let us in close. they've spent more points than we have, and that seems completely fair that they are rewarded for their dedication.

i do love seeing new faces, but i also love the "You're a WHAT?!" reaction when i put up my titles or hunt with someone. i remember one group who was reluctant to let me fight with them because the doctor didn't want to have to heal me because i would take a lot of healing. when they saw that i could hold aggro of several monsters at once while also dealing out major damage, they quickly changed their tune. eventually, they started complaining that i was taking all the experience!

but the fellow is right: slow down, enjoy the ride, and learn about us. we're a great community and our size makes it easy to feel familial. best wishes, even to those who are using fencing as a means to an end. we'll always be here if you decide to return!

Yeah,

We are the true master of blade finesse. Our master title, "Blade Master," is well deserved.

Not even a skilled Jedi would find it difficult to breathe after we insert our weapons between his/her ribs multiple times before he/she can blink once!

--------------------------

But seriously, aren't we the only ones who can bleed like 1500-2000 per tick?

Hey, I mistyped. Ignore "Not" before "even"

So ...

"Even a jedi would find it difficult to breathe ... "

Thanks, Q

i tried pistoleer for a while, and not my character has developed to completely detest firearms. i untrained all my pistoleer skills one day before i even needed the skill points. i had so much xp left over, i helped friend get master marksman by training and retraining me in rifles I until he got enough apprentice points. this character will definitely not touch a blaster of any type, even for extra defense.

and i'm the only melee fighter in my group of 15. i love it. and i don't despise blaster *users*. just the thought of using one myself (well, my character does).

I don't despise blaster users (unless they are pointing them at me), i started out that way. Mastered pistol and was working towards pistoleer. When i started going for fencer i dropped my pistol stuff once i was able inflict the same damage as my pistol. I will not say it was an easy transition, but after a week of adjusting i made it and am much happier in battle now than with the blaster.

As far as why I made the swap, I was killing meatlumps for the first cries of aldreaan installment and liked the way they came at me with their staffs fearless of my blaster. So after looting a sword off of one of them i tried it, liked it and wen full force into fencing.

Since most people here must have dropped something to go into fencing, what's your story? Why the switch, or if you went from a non aggro profession into fencing, what made you decide to go this route?

one thing about bounty hunters and commandos killing us:

i believe that although they spent all of their skill points on their profession, if fencers like us spend our skill points not only on fencer but master brawler and maybe another brawling profession (like TKA, two-handed, or polearm) then we should be able tobe quite equal considering we spent the same amount of skill points all on combat-related professions.

i started out as a fencer from the beginning. nothing made sense. the pistol i was using was having trouble killing gubburs. if i'm gonna get hit while i'm doing damage, i might as well stand still and have a better chance to hit.

plus, i've always been a fan of medieval and ancient combat. i never more than toyed with anything but fencer, for brawling. while i was climbing, i was a rifleman, then a pistoleer, then all three. now i'm fencing only, novice medic, and CH. i'll eventually drop CH for TKA meditation.

i agree partially. i'm of the school that they should of course almost always win at range, and we should almost always win up close. the problem becomes: if we can always catch them, we can always win. so it's a game of not allowing the other player their strengths. i have to keep him close, and he has to keep me far away.

spending the extra skillpoints should give us a greater chance to catch a bounty hunter, but those methods shouldn't always work, and there should be more than one method. which is the reason i'm partly for the warcry. you can still do lunge. you can still burst run (as i believ Kali mentioned).

I've always been a Fencer. The day I got the game and worthless strategy guide, I looked at the book and decided, "I want to be a Fencer."

So I became a Fencer. I've never been anything but a Fencer. All I'm interested in now, is being a better Fencer. So I got Master Brawler and that made me better. All that's left now, is to keep getting better till I'm the best that I can be.

So that's what I'm gonna do.

you know Altair.... after having a look at the Pistoleer trees and the TKA trees and seeing how many points will be required to get where I want to be in each, the TKA stuff is looking a lot more appealing. I'm glad you said that.

I might not have to pick up a gun after all and I can leave the shoosting up to my new guy.

Yes I said shoosting.

actually my sword IS my lightsaber, i have no intention of changing things around to a profession i don't want to play to be a jedi so I just use the meleetosaber client side mod. Presto my curved sword is a lightsaber hehe
