Thread: Playing a Fencer AND Swordsman Not seeing the difference
So, I made novice fencer, and decided to also build up 2hand sword.
At first, I hated it. I loved my 1 hand sword fighting so much better than the big slow, often missing, 2hand axe.
But then I came across the 2-handed curved blade.
Not only is it MUCH higher damage, its also JUST AS FAST as most fencer weapons, even my sliced 1hand curved blade. I couldnt understand it. I hit harder, and just as fast.
So Im starting to wonder, what benefit does a fencer have over a 2hand swordsman? Everyones response so far has been
Fencer = Speed
Swordsman = damage
but in this case, Im seeing the same speed, but better damage for the swordsman.
Does the fencer skill tree offer things at higher levels that make it have an advantage (other than the so called "Speed" advantage) over Swordsman?
Im really starting to wonder if there is a reason to even play a fencer at all, if swordsmen can aquire the speed of a fencer and keep the damage output of 2handed weapons.
Well, besides us getting blind and dizzy (2h gets dizzy as well but not until final tiers)...
Breaking down numbers, we get +15 more speed overall than 2 handers, a much higher resist vs posture change and knockdown, and dodge improvements, where swordsmen get counterattack instead, as well as a little more toughness. Fencers also have the advantage of +4 more melee defense. Didnt compare ranged.
I think our resists to blind dizzy stun are higher as well.
I read through the "post your best sword here" and the fastest 1 hand sword speed I saw listed was 2.0
My 2hand sword is 2.4, and has a base damage over 200.
the average speed of a "good" 1 hand sword seems to be about 2.2-2.4, with a damage of about 150.
Those fencer speed buffs better REALLY make a huge difference, because there isnt much difference between 2.2 and 2.4
Er, well I mean its 198 for sure, I know for a fact its under 2. I dont know min or ham cost off hand
How about this...
2H swordsman gets Power Hammer at novice. According the recent armor faq that the Dev's put out, it kicks tail.. typically doing more damage then expected againist light armor becauses it's a heavy weapon. (I've included the link below if you haven't read it yet)
1H swordsman gets Stun Baton at novice. Although I haven't had a chance to use it yet (about 3/4th's to novice), the armor faq says that "Stun damage is the bane of armor, player and creature alike. Most armor is vulnerable to this Damage Type." To mean that means it will rock. If a player doesn't have a shield generator they are gonna be hurtin..
Just an idea.

Hey Bazi. Great use of the FAQ info man.
My sword is a 2.6 seconds, 88-208 ryyk. Yet I still swing faster than most 2h users with a fast 2h curved sword. Why? Footwork skill tree gives insane bonuses to attack speed. This gives fencers the extra speed greater than swordsmen, even with slower weapons.
