Just curious - I've been using my trusty Ryyk blade for quite awhile now. I've been qualified for a Rantok Sword for about 2 weeks now and I don't ever plan on questing for or buying one. Someone was selling one for 62k in front of a master weaponsmith's shop on Tatooine one day. I asked to see the stats on it and they beat the Ryyk blade by a couple on max damage and that was it. Other than looking sorta unique, why would I want one??

Okay, so what's next for a Fencer??? Novice fencer gets me a stun baton. Whooopee. The stats are horrible, like 40-80ish damage, attack speed in the high 2's low 3's. Why on earth would I want to use that? No other weapon cert for the rest of the Master Fencer tree.

It seems to me that this is the same for all weapons. My gf is a Novice Gunfighter and her DH17 is twice as good as the FWG5 she qualified for at Pistol Specialist.

I pray that SOE will add more variety to weapons and also to armor in the near future. As it stands, I'll never bother using anything more than the Ryyk I qualified for at Expert One Hand forever.

Thanks,

A regular vibro blade is comparable to a regular rantok - lower damage, but faster and lower HAM, plus AR 1 for fighting armored targets.

Once advanced vibro-units are unbugged, an advanced vibro-should be comprabale to an advanced rantok.

What makes the STUN baton special is that it does STUN damage, and guess what, pretty much all armor has vulnrability to STUN damage. All the damage gets through, and that's a good thing.

The good thing about the stun batons is that for 99% it negates ALL defensive bonuses the enemies have. If you pvp a guy an over confident guy wearing composite will drop faster than a load of bricks. Just imagine the look on his face when he sees what you did. Againist monster with high kinetic resist no worries you still beat them to death. Do yourself a favor and stop looking only at the damage and speed. The ryyk stinks due to ham cost. A vibroblade due to AP 1 and low HAM and Speed can serve you much better. But dont compare current ryks to current vibros due to thebug of the advanced vibro component. We have alot of good weapons just remeber that their benefits arent in dps alone.

yeah stun baton works amazing against armor, I dueled a guy with composite armor yesterday and he said he would stay within my range because my "stupid little sword" wouldnt even hurt him. I said he was right, took out my stun baton, onehanded2 him twice, and he was on his back Boy was he pissed

lol west park would have killed to see that. Its amazing the number of peoplewho dont research and learn about weapons and armor and think they are uber just because they have the most expensive stuff there is. Anyways congratlations on the kill just wish you had taken a screenshot of his reaction.

shield gens dont really help. as they have no armor rating they only take 3- 10 % at most. while it make make a small difference its not enough to justify the cost of keeping a shield gen repaired or buying a new one every few hours or so.

The way I understand Armor Rating, for every point of difference between the weapon's armor rating and the target's armor, you get a 25% bonus or penalty in damage.

So a vibroblade against an unarmored opponent is AR 1 versus AR 0, 25%. Against an opponent wearing armor (personal armor is 1) it is 0%, against an armored creature with say an armor rating of 2 you get a 25% decrease.

I tried out a vibroblade on eclipse that was 40-123 base, and is now 40-153 sliced. It performs more consistently than an unsliced ryyk blade with 73-168, without the major HAM penalties-- more consistent hits in the 1,000-1,000 range using Cho Sun against typical unarmored creatures.

Definitely worth trying out, though it seems most weaponsmiths might not be mass-producing these, in any case it performs much better than the Rantok even without the 10/10/10 range maods.

Once you hit Novice Fencer you do qualify for Stun Baton, but in addition, you will get 1hHit2 which is a major leap and will make the lower damage of the vibroblade more favorable.

Plus, smiths will also have the ability to increase HAM efficiency, which was bugged or not implemented, so you may want to make due with what you have until these changes come through.

Also, I have to think the reason that there are weapons at every level of 1h Brawler and only one in the entire fencing tree itself means that they plan to introduce more certifications as we go along.

Daigoro perfectly said except for one small fact. Its 50% damage reducded if the weapon has a lower ap than the armor rating for each level not 25%. also you forgot to mention that if a creature or armor is vulnerable to a certain damage type like stun all defensive benefits from armor rating are ignored when using that weapon meaning a stun baton could theoritcally hit an armor III enemy for full damage. Other than that your analysis was dead on.

Thanks for clearing that up, I see from the "Armor Fundamentals" article up on the main page that you're absolutely right.

I was referring to the vibroblade as an example of armor rating, but I'm looking forward to trying a stun baton for the reasons you mention. I do like the vibroblade, though.
