"Going forward, DoT's are being balanced along with the rest of the combat system and after all of the combat changes are made, Faction Point costs will be reduced and brought into line with everything else."

Straight from one of TH's posts on the dev tracker. All thats really to be said is that if they take care of this in the traditional sony fashion then they might not even be worth applying heh. Although he did say that this was after teh combat changes are made... which in turn is after the creature balancing and weapons balancing... so who know. Maybe the day will come when we wont absolutely have to bleed anything above AR1 to death.

I'm probally saying this for nothing and definately hope that I am... but the fact of the matter is that its just not going to be fun trying to tickle a gnarled rancor to death with some of the weapons we have if this creature balance doesn't really turn things around for people.

I think that they are going about balancing in a reasonable way. First, they need to work out the new weapon system, THEN they work out the quick specials, THEN they work out slow specials.

We don't know the shape of the new weapon crafting system yet. Until we know that, we can not comment on much else.

This could be good or bad. I just accept this as "the game that is." I learned to play the old way, and I'll learn to play the new way. Some things will improve, and other things will be problematic.

They are placing a huge bet that the new system fixes some systemic problems. I hope they do, too. It takes great courage to say, "The system that we built just isn't working, and we are going to rewrite it."

I am sorry I just don't see how you made the leap from: "DoT's are being balanced" to "Fencers get a better armor piercing weapon." I am with ya though, I do want something better than what one guy referred to as my "butterknife." However, alower speed capwould serve just as well as a better weapon. It seems that Swordsmen and TKA's outdamage us pretty easily, I am not sure about how Pikemen compare.

To get us in line with the other melee professions' damage output, all we would need is about a quarter second speed increase. Or maybe just give us a little one-handed melee damage bonus. I am speaking without really testing, just using my experience of trying to kill a mob faster than a TKA or swordsman killing the same mob.

You dont know how I came to that comparison? Get a healer, find something that is exceptionally well armored and beat it to death using no DOTs Sure its possible, its not fun and takes about a month with our current array of weapons, but possible.

I'm not talking about trying to put a krayt dragon in a headlock either... just a bull rancor or such.
