I noticed something queer. Before I even hit novice I qualify for what looks like the best to have at any level, and thats the curved sword....better than the other swords leading up to Novice.

Is this the best weapon...mine is 84-167 speed 1.8.

I also noticed that the stun baton is the ONLY weapon at novice Fencer...Is it any good?

Coarse I am not a novice yet.

Ok here is the rundown form what i understand.

Curveds are about the average weapon decent damage and decent HAM cost

Vibros have low DAM Low HAM but the high AP1 which against armored opponets is a godsend

Gaffi Batons have High Dam and HIgh HAM so some dont prefer them because of the HAM cost

Rykk Blade is crap

Rantoks are similar to curveds with Higher HAM( not 100% on this one)

Stun baton has low dam low ham but it cause stun damage which agian is very usefull against composite armored people

From what I understand this are the only viable weapons I am a wookie and dont wear armor so I use the Gaffi baton myself because HAM cost are not a big deal to me feel free to ocrrect me anyone

Well the curved is the best dps weapon not considering ham or speed cap. The facts is once you get into fencer there is no big difference between a 1.8 speed and a 3.6 due to speed mods. Also the curved drains action ,mind pretty badly. Action's not hard to buff or heal, mind is. The gaffi pulls a higher damage and drain low on mind. However it drains heavy health. But that can be buffed easily (tat sunburn) or healed. The vibroblade does ok damage but really shines in its ham. The stun baton is chosen for the damage type.It does not bad average damage but not great either. Also it drains action and mind.Because of these facts most fencers carry a gaffi, a vibroblade, and a stun baton.

The curved is the best DPS weapon until the speed cap lets the Gaffi pass it up (generally at Footwork II in the Fencer tree - Footwork I with speed slices). Curved has a bigger mind bar hit than the Gaffi but less than the stun baton. Gaffi has a higher health bar hit than the curved.

Stun Baton is substantially lower DPS than both Gaffi and Curved. It's strength that many armors (PvE and PvP) have no resist to stun damage. Vibroblade is the only AP weapon we have, but I've heard it doesn't get the base 1.86 Fencer modifier (and this seems consistant with my results)and therefore can only compete with Curved as a very low HAM option.

I have a crate of curved swords in my basement plus my own collection. I'm thinking about decorating my walls with them. They were given to me to grind to slicing 4 with my other character but I save them till I reached that point. Best slice I got was 210 max damage. The one I have carried for months has 225 max damage so the others will become decorations. I dont use em much anymore anyway. I stick to the butterknife (VB) and weedeater (Gaffi). I might pull all the speed sliced ones and hand them out to all the newb holo fencers on Shadowfire. There sure are enough of em. I counted 5 or 6 at Fort Tusken a couple nights ago.

I did the math and If you dont mind the ham costs the gaderiffi baton passes up the others on damage even with high armour most of the time.. but that's only a really good one. As a master if you can find a way around the ham costs like I did this is the one to use.

You know you guys really arent explaining the HAM costs very well. You're trying to lump the health, action and mind costs into one category, which they're not. For example Tithas said that the Gaderiffi Baton has high HAM costs, while the stun baton has low. That may be true for health and action but it is defintely not for mind. My stun baton has a mind cost of 49 and even when i'm muoned that starts to take its toll. My gaderiffi, in the other hand, has a mind cost of only 19, so I don't need to worry about my mind when using it. It does have a massive health cost of 60, though. And the curved sword does have decent health and mind costs but the action on mine is around 50and that decreases mypool pretty quickly. For me, though, the only cost i really need to worry about is mind, because i'm a master doc and can buff myself so special moves cost no health or action. Well anyway hope I've been some help.

Personally after I got my cert for the vibroblade my curved sword began collecting dust. Here is why...

My vibroblade has ham of 11/22/11 this allowed me to spam 1h hit 1 over and over again letting me complete 1h weapon specialization, and novice fencer. The low ham for special spamming, and the armor peircing makes this weapon a no brainer for most young fencers.

The gaffi that I have has something like 46/40? i forgot the exact number/13 ...Yes that is right. 13! As a trandoshan the health drain isn't that big a deal, but it is noticable. However for the damage that this thing is capable of. That 13 on the mind cost is a godsend. Like the curved sword the gaffi has no armor piercing. Yes it may look slower, but once you climb the footwork tree. The speed on your weapons will no longer matter. So the gaffi has high damage, a lower mind cost (the others can be stim'ed) and will strike at the same speed as any of your other weapons. It's no wonder this is the weapon of choice for almost all masters!

The stun baton has an odd assortment of costs 13/45/41 or something similar to that on mine. It has a very high mind cost. This weapon I use very rarely because while does have it's uses. The gaffi can at times be a better choice for damage even when attacking kinetic resistant foes.

To tithias the ryyk blade is not crap, mine is 95-250 2.4 speed, the HAM costs is high but the damage makes up for it, With the skills of a 2433 fencer i have taken down master commandos, master terais kai, master pistoleer, and any other master profession i have come across. Each weapon has an area its good in and an area its bad in, but there are easy ways to make up for its disadvantages

Dunno really, I've been using a curved sword for a while now, and I've never ran into trouble spamming specials with it - took a bit of jiggling in the stat migration department, but I can do fine with it now. Muon Gold helps too - just the drop from it is pretty **edit** harsh if it comes at an inconvenient moment.

I think with the changes to the HAM system that are planned, it'll work out better.

Bottom line: There are a few good weapons that fencers can use. I use at least 3.

Gaffi Stick -high kinetic damage AP0

Stun Baton - stun damage AP0

Vibroblade -lowishkinetic damage AP1

I switch between these based on my opponent's armor rating, kinetic resistance, and stun resistance. I try to focus my attacks on the vulnerabilities in their armor.

At master all I use are damage sliced weapons, but I used speed sliced ones until I got footwork 4. There are some great posts on this board by Raphayl concerning weapons and their stats, strengths, and weaknesses.

This one focuses on weapons:
