Thread: A Plea for Assistance to My Fellow Fencers

This is off the topic of Fencers, and I regret that I must waste your time.

But, I have posted of my problems with the crash to desktop and system crashes on the proper forums to no avail. Here is my current plight.

Last night, I reformated my hard drive and reinstalled Win XP and all my drivers due to my system being corrupted by all my SWG crash issues. Myself and the Alienware Tech guy tried everything in the book to recover my system without the reformat, but it had to be done.

Now I am ready to reinstall SWG with my fingers crossed. But I cannot get the problems I had with removing SWG and reinstalling it before the reformat out of my mind. After the re-install, and after I started LaunchPad, it would begin to update the game. Right at the end, I would get an error that said, "The game was not installed form the disk" or something or other. I tried repairing the install from Add/Remove Programs, again to no avail.

I have read all the horror stories on the forums and have placed some of my own, about these game stopping crashes. So, I am looking for recommendations or past experiences from this group of Fencers, so that I too can return to my sword swinging alter ego.

So in away it is a Fencer issue...kind of...sort of.

Thanks for at least hearing my plea,

Hi,

I would think a moment to consider where you would post things ...

It happens to me too. I just have +200 Client Crash Toughness. (there is no client crash defense unfortunately)

Come back to as if you have more proper cause to come this this particular forum. You will be more than welcome.

can you get a new disk from SOE? maybe they've released a newer disk, and that might help if you can install from a different CD and key. maybe borrow a buddy's disk?

my only thoughts so far, i'll keep thinking on it. i'm on an alienware machine, and it works flawlessly with SWG.

I have successfully deleted components of SWG off of my machine (mainly the main exe file, buton one occasionI deleted all swg program files) several times and successfully repaired them when the prompt comes up when I insert the CD. I have always used the repair feature...if that isnt working for you, and by the way you've described it, it may just be your CD. Try getting new ones if it wont confirm it for you. Oh, I am also using XP.

Have you *ever* gotten SWG to work? or does it just always crash instantly? When is it crashing? If it is freezing (not going to desktop) on the loadup screens, it could be a firewall issue. I had that with zonealarm but discovered that I could click on where the 'accept' button was and it would go away.

I'm not really good at this sort of thing, but maybe answering these questions will help someone else figure it out.

Thanks for the replys guys. To respond:

1) Yes, I have gotten it to work before. When I first bought the game, it worked flawlessly. Only since the Thanksgiving patch has there been problems.

2) I don't have a firewall, the one that is in WinXP is disabled.

3) It crashes to desktop mostly.

But, I have the game installed now, and here is how I did it:

A poster in the Tech Support forum (NOT a CSR) recommended that I move my LaunchPad.exe file from my Sony file into my Galaxies file. After I did this, low and behold, It installed the updates without a problem.

I still have random crashes to the Desktop now...but it seems a lot of people are. So, I can only assume that the "People Who Matter" know of this and are working on it.

Thanks for the help and may the force be with the bugfixers.
