Thread: Only ONE Attack Profession...

I've always liked swords, and am particularily fond of fighters who prize speed over sheer strength. Now, because of this, I've leant to Fencer rather than Swordsman. Though i have some questions.

With my Gaderiffi, I'm ripping through white cons like there's no tomorrow, though i'm only One-Handed 2. This normal for all melee profs, or just fencer (the Stick is 10X-21X damage at 3.3 or 3.4 speed). Now, since I can only take one full profession, which would you recommend?

Please take into account that I cannot become a 'defense stacker', as I only have 92 points to work with. Any suggestions (this is enough to get a full Elite Class and have 0 SP left over). I was thinking either TKA, Fencer or Pikeman. I'm leaning towards fencer right now, and am enjoying it. Would having only fencer allow me to solo, for instance, Janta's and the like on Dant, as well as group effectivly? By effectivly I mean be of use for something other than a distraction. I know I can't be a tank, and won't be the highest damage dealer, but I feel fencer has the ability to take damage, both with armor and by avoiding it, as well as deal some respectable damage. Is that true, or do you need to stack with other profs in order to be useful?

Thanks for any help.

Heya, Hope I can help answer some questions you may have about fencer. Now I am Currently a Master Brawler, Master TKM, Swordsman and Fencer combo. I'm actually still trying to decide which route to go with fencer or swordman, but i'll figure that out later. Anyways, in regards to you question about fencer being able to solo stuff like jantas and stuff. Well the answer is ultimately yes, sure you can solo them, however there is one difference between fencer and swordsman and tkm, etc. Fencer is the defense of the melee, so you actually hardly be hit by the jantas, but on the same token, you will hardly do damage against them. Not like a TKM or Swordsman. For instance if I take a janta or mokk mission on dantooine, with a level of 99 or above. Using a VK and my Master TK skills, I can kill all the jantas and destroy the base in around 5 mins or so. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I'm not a master at Swordsman or Fencer. In fact my swords is 4023 and my Fencer is currently 1102. So personally if you are looking for a good defensive profession, go fencer, then swordsman for offense, if you want a mix of both, go TK.

Swordsman for pve, you can get around swords speed easier than you can get around fencer damage.

I've been told, and have experienced, that Fencer is rather well balanced all the way until you get to the absurdly difficult dungeons like Corvette and DWB. Until then, Fencers *can* tank (and do so rather well). Their damage is kinda sucky after everyone else starts hitting their speedcaps, but it's the trade-off you take. For group play and PvP, you may consider taking at least Novice Medic, 'cause not being able to heal yourself really blows when your doc/cm bites it because an NPC randomly decided to shoot off a couple cone attacks and hit him. >_<

(PS - It takes you 5 minutes to destroy a diff 99 Janta camp as a Master TK? That seems...slow to me. I usually do diff 120+ Mokk's and I can drop those within a couple minutes with Dizzyhit2 spam to drop the mobs, then hit3 on the camp if it's still up after they're all dead.)

(PPS - Labes, your sig says Bloodfin but your profile says Valcyn. Just thought I'd let ya know. ;X)

Thanks Haschel, have a character on Valcyn, but my Bloodfin avatar is the one I'm mainly going to be working with.

Swordsman for offense, Fencer for Defense and TKA for a mix? I think I'll try fencer out for a while, see how it is, and then drop some of it's skills to test out swordsman. I may be doing minimal PvP later on so it sounds like Fencer can be good for the kind of PvE I'm looking for, and I know it can hold up in PvP alright.

Thanks for the help everyone.
