Under the new system, as your character combat level increases, so will your total health. Your character's combat level is determined by the number of combat related skill boxes that you have. Additionally doctor and combat medic skill boxes will count towards this level. So as you gain these combat related skill boxes you will be able to gain health up to the cap of 3000.

Clicky to a thread in the ranger forums on the subject when Owen-Lars confirmed that you wont be able to get 3k health without spending all you SP in combat related boxes.

As I've said in other threads, I'm extremely concerned that with Fencer as my only elite mastery I will be handicapped by not getting the full 3k health. I guess it would be less of an issue in PvE but in PvP I'm going to get screwed over. I don't mind being handicapped because I have less specials or defensive mods, that's fair, but having less health means I've pretty much lost before I start.

Maybe even if they tied health to all you SP rather than just combat boxes?

It has nothing to do with preventing stacking.

And dabbling will still give you health, and a 250 point dabbling combat template will give you max health.

Cast aside your preconceptions and you will be delivered from this sin of assumption.

That's the bit I'm worried about cause I'm sure ID wont count towards combat level.

Though I am in full support of the CU, this is still one thing I do not like.

I would rather they tie it into profession mastery somehow or another so that a person could master one elite profession and not be penalized for picking up something like entertaining or crafting.

That's exactly what I want to see. Make it so that you get 3k health once you have invested your 250 sp in any skills and I'd be much happier.

A lot of noise (especially on the Ranger forum) about this issue. People are making it sound like someone who doesn't have the full 3k health might as well pack up and go home because they won't stand a chance against someone who does.

Right now today I can migrate[1] my stats to give myself an advantage over another playing in certain situations depending on how his stats are set up. And I have no complaint about giving an advantage in combat to players who spend more skillpoints in combat professions as long as it isn't too unbalancing[2].

[1] Sorry to see this go. It provides useful tactical options.
[2] The whole point of the CU.

I have no problem with people investing more SP into combat skills having an advantage in combat, I just feel that the advantage should come from any skills and mods that are in the boxes they pick up, not extra health.

I don't have too much of a problem with it in PvE but in PvP it will be a huge handicap because somebody who isn't a pure combat player will get taken down so much faster. If they make health proportional to the skills you have rather than just combat skills more people will get involved in the GCW which is alot about what the CU stands for imo.

If I have MID in my template I would expect to lose to a pure combat character everytime if we were equally skilled and equipped but if I were more skilled and have say master brawler, master fencer and some limited pistol skills I would expect to be able to defeat a pure combat character who was less well equiped or less skilled.

I expect giving me a handicap on Health would make that almost impossible.

If the two players equip identical armour and weapons, and stand there using the same auto attacks on each other, yes the guy with more health will win. In a real combat environment there are many more factors that come into play. More health may not necessarily provide an overpowering advantage, even between players with closely-matched skills.

Or maybe it will. All will be revealed when the frogs start dishing out elite profession skills.

Personally I don't see how having 50% more health than somebody else couldn't be anything but over powering but we will see.

Personally, I am all in favour of this. If you are (for example) MID and take a combat profession as well, then I think you should not be as viable in combat as those that put all SP's into combat professions. Stands to reason really. You wanna do pure PvP, then go pure combat - you wanna do ID and make some money, but also wanna do PvP, then you are asking for for the best of both worlds.

Only time will tell exactly how this turns out, but gets the thumbs-up from me

Any idea how the FS skills will be counted? Will the combat prowess trees count as "combat boxes"? How about enhanced reflexes?

I'm not a fencer anymore, I was just wandering through forums and saw this thread, sorry if I'm out of line.

Does this means when we hunt we won't need buffs? WOOOHOOOO!!!!!, if so, and CRAP! if not. I mean, with that much health I wouldn't think that the ham cost would mean much. I never get damaged much hunting, even unbuffed, it is just that I can't use any of me specials, due to ham cost cost. So will 3k health fix that prob? please, please, please!
