Thread: A useful combo....
Gettings Fencers, I have made a fairly useful discovery if anyone cares to look......
First of all, many are really poo-pooing armor. The TYPE of armor is most important. Something that has good protection, and low HAM. I personally use sliced Marine Armor. It gives 30% resistance to most kind of attacks, and with my slices, the HAM is VERY low (my chest armor only takes away 105 health!!!).
Secondly, I have learned that secondary skills are VERY important. If you have not noiced yet, combos are our only real way to win a battle, and with high secondaries, we can do that. I have only 850/725/725 HAM, but my secondaries are high, and with that 30% resistance, AND the PvP reduction in damage, I take very little damage at all. If you get a Mk. 3 shield, you will get an additional 30% bonus to your energy resistance at the least. That brings it to 60%!!!!!! It takes time and money to get all of this, but it is worth it seeing those pistol kiters do a whopping single-digit damage to you. Imps, get ST armor, it has the same stats.
Finally, the combonations that you do are important. Fencers, I have found this as my personal favorite macro combo - I forget the exact names, bear with me
/follow (following the enemy is SOOOO important, especially against kiters)
/blind
/dizzy
/health wound
/hit2
/body hit2
The most important part is Blind and Dizzy. While our knockdown effects arent that great (although they still work fine for me in PvP....) those two will make your enemy miss most of the time. Very useful on ranged as well.
How good is all this? Today, I beat a near-master pikeman 3/3 times, and a heavy swordsman of my level once.... and I didn't use bleeding or knockdown attacks either. It is WORTH IT, it just takes work. Give it a try, you won't be sorry!
Good luck, my fencer friends!

While your combo sounds good to me.. i am unsure about one thing.
Dizzy according to the description only gives a chance of knocking down the enemy during a posture change, it does not say anything about it affecting an enemys attacks or defense. Do you find it actually makes a difference? I use it regularly with lunge, just never on its own.
Hey, thanks for the tips. Very generous of you. I'm curious - where does one find the shielding you mentioned?

Sounds exactly like I do, blind, dizzy, healthit, then I quip the ubese, and normal strike away
Only to things I disagree with. I would go with health hit first because blind now can take two or three attempts, and its effects are not always very great. If you get one more tick on the bleeding, it can make the difference between life and death. I also recommend creating a macro that combines /attack and /follow. Also keep stop follow handy on the hotkeys so that you do not have teh followinterfering with target switching as needed.
I wouldnr spam intimidate during a fight as it will drain your HAM ALOT. I use it before..or after I land a successful Blind.
a. I used to use intimidate alot, but I found that it drained my HAM a bit too much.... but I will try adding it in first for awhile, and try that out. Thanks for the idea.
b. Mk. 3 Shields can be found by someone who makes shields.... ask around for personal shields, I'm sure you will find someone. On Kettemore, Meech made mine.
c. Dizzy, I have found, makes your opponent miss a good bit of the time. The actual damage done is also fairly good, and the animation is quick to boot. That's just what I've found from practice- it may be that it has no real affect.... then again, I'm not a master, so they would be the ones to ask....
d. Blind SOMETIMES does not work for me, but I'd say about 8/10 times I attack it works. You need to look at your 'combat' tab and see if the attack hit - if the enemy dodged, or you missed, then it obviously isn't going to work.
e. Yes, putting bleed first may also be a good idea, but I think that if you get the enemy off balance first (blind + dizzy them so that they can't hit you!!!!) then you will take less initial damage. /stopfollow = good point!!!

That's a funny flash, if anyone cares....
Thanks for the pointers! Hopefully with our upgrades coming soon, we will rule.

Someone said dizzy only gives you a better chance at knocking an opponent down during a posture change...So, why does dizzy sometimes knock me down when a posture down attack isn't done on me afterwards? I'm confused...
