Thread: Do I have what it takes to be a fencer?
I'd say go for it! If the thought of a very fast, skillful, versatile weapon (and I'd argue that with such low speeds, and the ability to pull off a variety of specials over a short time, the fencer is very versatile within melee) fits in with your conception of your character, then go for it, and see what happens! I'm only just below one-handed 4, so I probably know not whereof I speak, hehe, but there's no denying that the fencer has class, and has the potential to be extremely powerful. And sneaking up on an Imperial base and gutting the troops one by one is, in its way, even morefun than blowing their heads off from a distance.
Try it a while, and see what you think. ![]()
However, can we get some feedback from real fencers here?
Cheers,
Tenna
Just do what is fun for you and don't worry about it
. It might take you a little bit longer to get to master fencer than some other people, but it sounds like you aren't that concerned about that sort of thing anyway.
Greetings,
You will probably do quite well!
Make sure you always have nice stim B with you!
I have solo'd a lot myself. I hanged out in Corenet for my Earlier days and now live on Talus myself! The mobs are pretty good there.
Don't think you will ever solo much on a harder planet though!
BTW! Once you hit novice it is a very, very, very long road to master.
I am still only 2,4,3,3.
I still need over 1 mil one handed exp. Puts me just over 2 thirds the way there.
Enjoy!
I don't wear armor either. I started off trying to use armor, but ended up just using clothing. I seem to do ok without it. I do try to keep aggro off of me by using my pets though, and even then I still die a LOT. But I still have fun and I'm not in competition with anyone else.
You sound alike like me...and I am enjoying the Fencing profession greatly. It will take an eternity for me to hit master, I know this...but I'm in no hurry. I'd recommend you becoming at least a Master Medic. ATM, I'm a Novice Fencer, Novice Doc and Novice CH and I do very well for myself. With a bit of luck, and decent armor (35+ kinetic resists), I can take most mobs with 8k HAM with a little luck. I don't die too often, I generally only die when something else aggros on me in the middle of another fight. You're a Zabrak...remember Equillibrium, as it will save your arse on many an occassion.
That said...have fun and do your thing. I also have a bit of Scout thrown in there (traps are underrated in PvE) and I have no ranged skills whatsoever (other than those traps and my spineflap handmaidens pollen attack...how Pokemon...haha). And I can't complain. Sure, I can't walk through things like my Heavy Swordsman/Rifleman in-training can...but I do OK.
Like the other's have said, go for it and try it out. Myself, I'm a 0 0 0 0 Fencer with 0 0 0 0 CH abilities. I do use armor, but in such a way that it's "fashionable" (ie- no biceps and all armor matches and works well in a color scheme). My one pet is a cowardly gurrilek that I take pride in since I consider him my partner. Oh, and like someone else said earlier, if you plan on going to say, Endor or Lok by yourself, be prepared to run.. alot and die alot too. It's near imposible to take some of those creatures yourself.
Hey Happy,
You can indeed survive like this. I've been doing it as a Ranger/Fencer for quite a while. I am almost to the point where I've used up allmy points. Talus is a good planet for some soloing, if you're a fencer. I've spent a good bit of time there. I can't comment on how good it is just starting out, but for intermediate levels, it's excellent.
If you really have no interest in PvP, then a class like Fencer might even be MORE appealing, since, IMO, that's where over half of our problems lie.
Be prepared to keep and use that touch of medic skill, as melee folks get the heck beat out of us, not just ham-wise, but wound-wise.
The start of Fencer, down in the Brawler line, can be a bit of a bugger. You have access to terrible (even if crafted) sword and knife selection, and basically just run up and swing on things for little damage till they die. Can get a bit frustrating. Once you hit Novice Fencer, though, you'll get much better.
If you have any questions, you can shoot me a tell sometime. I play on kettemoor, too. ![]()

Only medic skill you will need is the novice medic. DOnt worry about moving up the trees there cause you can buy good stim b's that only require novice medic title to use. That is what i am going with Fencer/Scout with just medic novice. The stim b's i heal my self for anywhere up too like 600 health 600 action. For a 25charge stim B that I have I paid like anywhere from 500 credits to 1k credits. Ahh and the sword to get is tier 2 of one handed sword called the Curved Sword mine is 71-174 dmg 1.6 sec and I do very decent dmg.
There was a guy selling them on tat in espa (Kettlemore Server) name was oddio or odiio or something. Look him up.
Have fun with it enjoy your self.

The one obstacle is the guideline about training and grouping. You can go from Novice Brawler to Fencing 4-4-4-4 without ever grouping but when it comes time for Master you'll need 620 apprentice points. For that matter, you'll need another 620 for Master Scout.
You don't have to spam the starport to do that either. I've earned 650 or so apprentice points just from people who approached me looking for training.
What i think someone need to have success on harder planet like Endor or Dathomir is either Ch skills or high medic skills. I am blademaster and i can solo Rancor and Graul Mauler with a regular pet. As long theydont groupto attack me i am doing fine against them. But i am 3 31 4 in CH and 4 4 4 3 in medic and without that i would die in 10 seconds. The fencer profession is fun but you need to match it with skills that can be useful in a fight if you are like me and dont like large group.

Hmm, I guess I'll try it after all. Though I don't know how long I'll be keeping those medic skills. After ranger and weapon skill, I have enough points for either novice medic and one box trained or novice CH with three boxes in one branch. An animal companion sounds fun.
I hear ya on the sparse points left after mastering those 2 lines. But think of it this way: If you go CH, sooner or later, you'll need/want to heal your pet. ![]()
